The occupant of this position is a member of the Operational Technology and Engineering (OTE) Section. The role of the OTE Section is to ensure the development, delivery and operation of measurement equipment and systems meet the Bureau's performance and functional requirements.
This includes the following sensors/networks:
- Radar and Wind Profilers
- Automatic Weather Stations
- Solar Radiation
- Upper Air
- Flood Warning
- Sea Level
- Aircraft Based Observations
Operational Technology and Engineering is made up of a diverse team of specialists and engineers responsible for the development and design of engineering and technological solutions, incorporating level three support, on a range of technologies spanning from radars to rainfall stations, drifting buoys to dedicated observations and satellites to ships at sea so as to meet business needs.
The Mechanical Technical Lead oversees a small team responsible for maintenance and support of mechanical elements of observing systems such as weather radars. This role requires providing advice on maintenance techniques, schedules, selection of mechanical components and the preparation and evaluation of guidance documents and maintenance manuals.
The mechanical lead role may also be required to participate in maintenance of mechanical equipment in the field or conduct audits of practices and processes.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Proven ability to lead within a team environment, to work with people, and encourage delivery and innovation
- Experience working within a Quality (ISO9001), systems engineering (ISO15288) and asset management environment
- Extensive technical knowledge and experience in the maintenance and support of mechanical and electromechanical engineering and systems
- Demonstrated experience in prioritising and managing numerous concurrent tasks.
- Strong communication and liaison skills.

- Experience with commissioning, testing and operating complex equipment and the ability to communicate these outcomes through written procedures, drawings and reports, presentations and phone support.
