About Us
Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.
Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the ‘Courts Group'.

About the Role
The Coroners Prevention Unit (CPU) provides support to Coroners to fulfil their prevention mandate to improve public health and safety. To support this, the CPU maintains several databases containing information on deaths reported to and investigated by Coroners. The primary purpose of collecting the information in these databases is to assist Coroners to understand the circumstances and contexts underpinning Victorian deaths, so that opportunities can be identified to reduce the risk of preventable deaths occurring in future.
The Data Coordinator is responsible for leading a team of Project Officers. Key accountabilities include:

Reviewing and interpreting coronial material to code information (both categorical data and free text information) about deaths including suicides and homicides, especially for complex cases.

Overseeing the day-to-day tasks required to operate and maintain key CPU databases, including data coding and maintenance as well as extracting, collating, analysing, and reporting on coronial data.

Managing a team of project officers who are responsible for enhanced coding into CPU databases, including benchmarking and tracking coder performance.

Supporting the Manager of Data and Analytics by undertaking tasks and projects associated with the provision and interpretation of best practice data.
About You
We are looking for a self-directed and forward-thinking individual with excellent communication skills and an eye for detail. As the successful candidate you will also possess:

Experience in critically reviewing written material and extracting relevant information from it.

The ability to plan and prioritise your workload and to work collaboratively with others.

Proven expertise in collating data to write reports for a range of audiences.

Experience in leading a team in a research or government policy setting is desirable, but not essential.

Data entry experience into administrative datasets using a range of complex documents is essential.
