We are seeking a skilled and motivated Cook to join our kitchen team and contribute to maintaining our high standards of food quality and service.
Position Summary
The Cook will be responsible for preparing and cooking menu items, maintaining food quality standards, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations, and supporting the efficient operation of the kitchen.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
Examining foodstuffs to ensure quality and freshness.
Regulating temperatures of ovens, grills, fryers and other cooking equipment.
Preparing and cooking a variety of food items according to recipes and menu specifications.
Seasoning food during preparation and cooking.
Portioning food, placing it on plates and adding sauces, gravies and garnishes.
Storing food in temperature-controlled facilities and monitoring stock rotation.
Preparing meals to meet special dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and other dietary needs.
Assisting with menu planning and estimating food requirements.
Monitoring food quality, consistency and presentation standards.
Minimising food wastage through effective stock control and food handling procedures.
Maintaining a clean, safe and organised kitchen environment.
Ensuring compliance with food safety, sanitation and workplace health and safety requirements.
Assisting with the training and supervision of junior kitchen staff where required.
Working collaboratively with kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure efficient service.
Essential Requirements
Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or higher qualification, or equivalent relevant qualification.
Minimum two years of relevant experience working as a Cook in a commercial kitchen environment.
Demonstrated knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and kitchen operations.
Sound understanding of food safety and hygiene standards.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards.
Strong organisational, communication and teamwork skills.
Reliable, punctual and capable of working independently when required.
Availability to work weekends and public holidays as required.
