About the role
Our Conductor role is based onboard our trains primarily responsible for the safety of all those onboard. This position requires you to keep in constant communication with the driver via radio, staying up to date with passenger numbers of those boarding and alighting at each stop and capture this data in various V/Line apps. You'll also be administering first aid and spot cleaning the train as required, the whole time providing exceptional customer service to all our passengers.
Key accountabilities include:
- Customer Service & Information: Be the go-to person for passengers, helping and information to customers face to face, and via a PA system. Management of food service (on some trains).
- Train Preparation: Ensure trains are ready for service, from cleanliness to functionality
- Fare Management: Handle ticket sales, checking tickets, and provide fare advice during train services
- Platform Duties: Oversee train departures and assist with luggage at stations
- Coach Duties: Manage coaches during planned and unplanned disruptions and events
- Fault Reporting: Manage and report any equipment or facility issues
- Emergency Management: Be prepared to handle service disruptions and emergencies
- Schedule and roster frontline Conductor and Station staff classroom and continuation training
- Liaise with internal stakeholders to ensure staff attendance
- Coordinate travel and accommodation for staff
- Complete invoicing and other financial administration
- Stock and stationary ordering
- Purchase order certation
- Document and courseware updates using approved templates
- Organise meetings, and maintain agendas and minutes
- Book and liaise with internal and external providers
- Coordinate events and activities
- Support Customer Training Officers
- Assist with uniform ordering

- The ability to work a 24/7 rotating roster
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- A valid driver’s license
- Completion of Year 10 or equivalent
