Initial 3 year appointment
The Western Australia Police Force is seeking applications from serving, or previously serving, police officers who have attained the rank of Sergeant or equivalent in a compatible law enforcement environment for promotion to the rank of Inspector. Successful applicants will excel in the areas of Shapes Strategic Thinking, Achieves Results, Builds Productive Working Relationships, Communicates with Influence and Exemplifies Personal Drive and Integrity. Permanent appointment (after 3 years) will be considered subject to satisfactory performance.
This promotion process will create a rank pool to fill current and future Inspector vacancies for a finite period of 12 months.
Please note: Officers successful at Inspector rank must be prepared to serve state-wide.
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
The WA Police Force has a range of positions at the rank of Inspector. These positions contribute to the strategic and operational objectives of effective police services within the WA Police Force in accordance with policies, procedures, legislative requirements, and public standards of accountability.
SPECIALIST PRE-REQUISITES:
Applicants must be:
- Successful in obtaining and maintaining a Negative Vetting Level 1 or Level 2 (dependant on location) security clearance for the duration of their appointment in the position.
- Either:
- An Australian citizen, or a permanent resident, within the meaning of the Australian Citizenship Act 2007 (Commonwealth); or
- A New Zealand citizen who is the holder of a special category visa within the meaning of the Migration Act 1958 (Commonwealth) and is authorised under that special category visa to work in Australia as a member.
Applicants may be required to complete a medical assessment, psychological assessment, provision of identifying particulars and confirmation of bankruptcy search prior to appointment.
Inspector Leadership Suitability Assessment (ILSA):
As part of the promotion process applicants will be required to submit a completed ILSA with their application documents by the nominated closing date and time stated below. The ILSA is designed to assist in shortlisting applicants for promotion to Inspector rank. It evaluates leadership capability across four assessment criteria: People, Partnerships, Performance and Leadership.
Required Information Form (RIF):
Applicants are required to complete a RIF which is intended to inform the selection panel of the applicant’s capacity to serve anywhere in the state of Western Australia. This is NOT an assessable component of the promotion process.

- The CV should demonstrate your competency against the Commissioned Officer Promotion Selection Criteria
- Must have 2cm margins (left and right of the page) and must use a minimum of Arial font size 11.
- Must include names of at least two (2) Referees with contact email address and phone number
- Limited to five (5) pages
- ILSA
- RIF
- SIMR complete work history report (for current WA Police Force employees only)
- External work history form (for applicants external to WA Police Force only)
An Integrity Check Consent Form is to be completed and submitted along with your application (not required for current WA Police Force employees).
INTERVIEWS
Should applicants be shortlisted, they must be available and prepared to attend an interview at Police Headquarters, East Perth, provisionally scheduled between Tuesday 28 July 2026 and Wednesday 5 August 2026. External applicants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation costs.
