At Best Practice Software, our vision is communities connected with care. We’re achieving this through our mission to build a culture people love, where:
- we value customers,
- we work together for success,
- we are accountable for our actions,
- we innovate for the future, and
- we celebrate diversity and inclusion.
If you share our vision and values, please consider this exciting career opportunity to join our growing team in Brisbane.
You’re unique, and we value that.
Best Practice Software is looking for an exceptional Product Leader to own how we build and ship software, setting the standard for how our teams work, the tools they use, and how quickly and safely we deliver value to market. This isn’t a coordination role. We need someone who has been deep in the engine room of high-performing software delivery: someone who can look at how a team is working and make it better, who earns technical credibility with developers, and who builds a culture of delivery excellence from the ground up.
You’ll lead your delivery team across the full product development lifecycle, bringing structure, mentorship, modern frameworks, and a clear point of view on how great software gets made — including how AI should be embedded across the way we work, not bolted on as an afterthought.
As a Product Leader, we’ll call on your unique talents, skills, expertise, and experience. You’ll be responsible for:
Delivery Leadership & Team Excellence
- Lead, coach, and grow a team of developers and delivery-focused product owners, setting expectations, building capability, and driving accountability.
- Be the go-to expert on delivery, providing hands-on guidance, unblocking teams, and modelling the behaviours you expect.
- Establish a culture of delivery excellence where quality, pace, and craftsmanship are non-negotiable.
- Mentor developers, building the next layer of technical and delivery leadership.
Standards, Frameworks & Development Practice
- Define and own development standards, coding practices, review processes, and quality gates across your delivery team.
- Implement and continuously evolve modern delivery frameworks, Agile, Shape Up, continuous delivery, or hybrid approaches suited to our context.
- Establish clear definitions of done, release readiness criteria, and technical quality benchmarks.
- Drive adoption of tooling, automation, and practices that improve delivery predictability and reduce technical debt.
- Own the CI/CD pipeline strategy and ensure build, test, and release processes are fast, reliable, and auditable.
Technical Advisory & Architecture Oversight
- Provide expert technical advice to leadership and product teams on delivery architecture, tooling decisions, and build vs. buy trade-offs.
- Assess and validate that technology choices are fit for purpose, meeting our internal standards, regulatory obligations, and customer needs.
- Act as a senior technical voice in planning and roadmap discussions, grounding ambition in delivery reality.
- Identify and manage technical risk proactively, before it becomes a delivery problem.
Go-to-Market & Operational Excellence
- Own delivery metrics, cycle time, deployment frequency, defect rates, and team velocity, and use them to drive meaningful improvement.
- Oversee release planning, readiness, and rollout strategies in collaboration with Product, QA, and Customer teams.
- Ensure delivery processes meet Australian healthcare regulatory and compliance standards.
- Embed patient safety and clinical quality into every stage of the software development lifecycle.
We believe our ideal applicant will demonstrate the following attributes:
- Deep, hands-on experience leading software delivery teams, you’ve been close to the code and know what good looks like.
- Proven experience in a senior product or delivery leadership role within software.
- A strong technical background that gives you credibility with developers and the ability to make sound architecture and tooling calls.
- Proven ability to set and lift delivery standards, not just describe them, but embed them into how teams actually work day-to-day.
- Experience with modern delivery frameworks at scale, and the judgement to know when to adapt them.
- A genuine passion for mentorship and growing high-performing teams. Strong communication skills, able to translate technical complexity for commercial and clinical stakeholders.
- Comfort operating at both the strategic and hands-on levels without losing sight of either.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
