- A business standing on its own for the first time
- 4×3 roster
- Circa $160-170k pa total package
We’re becoming our own business, and to ensure our current workforce continues to receive seamless support, we need a proactive HR Business Partner to take ownership of our day-to-day HR operations. This role is highly operational, focusing on execution and daily problem-solving to keep our people processes running smoothly during a period of significant organisational change. You’d be joining people who back each other, in an operation with a genuinely good reputation, on work that matters.
About The Role
A hands-on generalist HR role that sits close to the operations. You’ll run site level employee relations, end to end recruitment, and everything in between while the business builds out its own people systems and capability. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Human Resources, you’ll own ER case management, recruitment and the cyclical people activity that keeps sites supported, and you’ll partner leaders directly rather than administer under supervision.
This is a 12-month fixed term role, created to carry frontline HR capability through the transition to a standalone business. It is a site-based role, and you will be remunerated well for it. This role will suit someone who is comfortable making the judgement calls and working with a level of ambiguity.

About Us
Southern Cross Fertilisers runs two manufacturing operations in North West Queensland — Phosphate Hill, with its own open cut mine, and the Mount Isa Acid Plant along with a port facility, an office in Townsville and an office in Brisbane. Our sites depend on each other, and our neighbours and the region depend on them too.
The fertiliser we make supports Australian farmers and helps put food on tables here and overseas. We are Australian.
We are resilient, diverse, invested and proud. How we work matters to us. Safety is not a slogan here. It’s how we run every shift, and production never comes ahead of it. Our plants run on standards, not heroics: planned work, predictable tonnes, doing what we say we’ll do and when something goes wrong, we look at the system before the person. People here report openly because the focus is on improvement, not blame. We’re an operation with a great reputation, and we back our people with meaningful work and high levels of ownership.
Everyone Gets a Fair Go
We want people from different backgrounds, experiences and walks of life. It makes us a better operation and a better place to work. We’re building a workplace that is safe and fair for everyone, with flexible work options that let our people do good work and have a life outside it. If that sounds like you, we’d like to hear from you.
About Our Process
Our recruitment process usually involves an interview (Teams or face to face), reference checks and a medical. Depending on the role, it may also include a site visit and psychometric testing.
