An exciting opportunity exists for a high-performing and motivated individual to join the Performance and Evaluation Division. As a Senior Analyst, you will provide expert leadership in the delivery of departmental survey and research activities that support strategic decision-making and organisational improvement. This is a full-time, fixed-term VPS5 role available until 30 June 2029.
About the role
The purpose of this role is to lead the delivery of research, survey and analytical activities within the Performance and Evaluation Division to support evidence-based decision-making and strategic priorities across the department. The role involves managing the development, administration and continuous improvement of key departmental surveys, overseeing research governance and accountability processes, and supporting the collection and use of high-quality evidence to inform policy, planning and performance improvement initiatives.
Building and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders is a key aspect of the role. The position works collaboratively across the department to ensure research and survey activities meet organisational needs, are methodologically robust, and align with governance requirements and best practice standards.
The role operates with a high degree of autonomy while working closely with business areas to identify information needs, support research and survey projects, and promote the effective use of evidence in decision-making. A particular focus of the role is driving contemporary approaches to survey development and administration, strengthening research governance practices, and supporting a culture of continuous improvement across the department.
You will have demonstrated experience in research, survey design and administration, evaluation or related fields, with the ability to manage complex projects and communicate effectively with a range of audiences. Strong stakeholder engagement skills, project management capability and an understanding of research governance principles are essential. Experience working within government or public sector environments and an understanding of evidence-based policy and program development will be highly regarded.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, briefings and recommendations.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement and solve complex problems.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and the development of contemporary approaches to survey and research practices.
- Experience working in government or the public sector, and knowledge of evidence-informed policy or program development, is desirable.

The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.

Drawing on robust research and evaluation practices, the Division works collaboratively with stakeholders across the department to improve outcomes for children, young people and communities.
The Division leads the development and implementation of performance, evaluation and research activities that support departmental priorities and contribute to system improvement. Through its focus on evidence, accountability and continuous improvement, the Division helps ensure that the department's initiatives are informed by reliable information and aligned with the needs of Victoria's education system.
