Restoring Families Lead Practitioner
Full-time, 38 hours a week
T his is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under 'special measures' of Section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.
About the Role
The Restoring Families Lead Practitioner provides intensive, culturally safe, trauma-informed therapeutic case management to Aboriginal children, young people and families as part of the Restoring stream of the Family Services Delivery Model. The role works with families experiencing complex needs and significant risk factors, including where children are in, or at risk of entering, out-of-home care. The practitioner delivers time-limited, high-intensity support aimed at:
- Safely restoring children to family care where appropriate
- Strengthening parenting capacity and family functioning
- Reducing risk and improving child safety and wellbeing
- Supporting children’s cultural connection, identity and belonging
The practitioner works in partnership with families, Child Protection (DFFH), and care teams to coordinate, implement and monitor restoration and reunification plans.
This role is grounded in Aboriginal self-determination, cultural authority, and the commitment to improving long-term outcomes for Aboriginal children and families.
About You
To be successful for this position, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:
- You are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander (remove if not a designation ATSI position)
- A recognised qualification in Community Services or a related field (minimum Diploma level), or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience in intensive family support.
- Strong understanding of Aboriginal culture, kinship systems, and intergenerational trauma, with demonstrated ability to deliver culturally safe, self-determined practice.
- Demonstrated experience delivering high-intensity, trauma-informed case management to families with complex needs, including those involved with Child Protection.
- Proven ability to assess risk, develop and implement structured case plans, and support outcomes such as reunification, restoration, or prevention of out-of-home care.
- Sound understanding of the Child, Youth and Families Act 2005, Child Protection processes, and experience working within statutory and multi-agency environments.
