About the Role
An exciting career opportunity exists for an experienced Sous Chef to join our team at Avani in a full time position starting immediately. The ideal candidate will have a wide range of preparation and cooking skills, be familiar with the operation of a busy kitchen, strong knowledge of produce, techniques, and the ability to prepare and execute beautiful dishes in a fast-paced environment. The candidate should have a genuine passion for fine food and quality local produce.
The sous chef will be working alongside the Culinary Director, Deepak Mishra, a unique and rare opportunity.
Experience with Indian cuisine is an added advantage.
Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years professional cooking experience to be considered for this role.
During off peak periods, the candidate will also have the opportunity to be involved in assisting in the winery or vineyard to further their knowledge of the business.
Avani is currently a lunch only operation, offering a strong work-life balance (Thursday to Monday).
Responsibilities
- Preparing food items according to recipes and menus
- Maintain high standard of food presentation
- Management of stock ordering and rotation
- Ensuring all equipment is appropriately maintained and cleaned
- Ensuring the correct storage of food and ingredients
- Managing junior staff members
- Promote Health and Safety at all times
- Minimize wastage/ spoilage.
- Daily checks of all mis en place to ensure freshness & quality standards.
- Maintain food safety related documentations and follow local food safety standards

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
