What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a Technical Writer to join the Residential Energy Team in Melbourne. In this role, you will manage the knowledge base for residential products, focusing on process, software, and product content for an internal audience.
As a technical writer supporting business operations, you will develop a strong understanding of how Tesla's energy business runs and how it interacts with various internal software systems. By using in-house tools, partnering with project and program managers across service, quality, and design, and collaborating with the diagnostics, training, and technical operations teams, you will help drive the growth and acceleration of products such as Powerwall and Wall Connector.
What You'll Do-
Collaborate with subject matter experts to build strong working relationships and gather information

Understand business processes and systems, and communicate them clearly to non-technical audiences

Validate information for accuracy and follow a routing and review process for document approval

Translate verbal and observational input into concise written procedures that convey concepts and instructions effectively

Edit content to a style guide and enforce organizational standards

Optimize content for AI parsing by applying consistent structure, adding metadata, and keeping content up to date

Migrate content to new templates and knowledge management systems

Manage tasks and information flow using collaboration software such as JIRA, SharePoint, and custom databases
What You'll Bring-
Degree in English, Technical/Professional Writing, Communications, or equivalent experience

2+ years of technical writing experience in a high-tech environment working with technical subject matter experts, or in a similar product-focused role

Experience creating process documentation that clearly communicates concepts, ideas, and instructions

Experience using AI applications at work or in daily life, with curiosity about leveraging and improving them

A positive outlook and flexibility toward frequent change and mid-project priority shifts

Familiarity or experience with SharePoint, HTML, XML, and DITA

Ability to manage multiple documentation projects under tight deadlines and competing demands while following established processes

Experience creating visual content that supports the text, such as taking and editing photographs to add callouts and zoom-ins, and/or pulling images from engineering databases
