Primary objective
To provide high-level administrative support and coordination for the management of elective surgery waitlists, ensuring a
patient-focused service and the efficient utilisation of theatre resources.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Coordinate scheduling of bookings for elective surgery, including pre-anaesthetic checks, clinical reviews and radiology
appointments.
2. Provide high-level administrative skills to effectively manage and monitor waitlists for multiple specialties.
3. Effectively liaise with patients and /or community clinics to notify patients of their surgery and appointments.
4. Manage and prioritise scheduling of patients in consultation with clinicians.
5. Coordinate appropriate equipment/ pharmaceuticals for surgery as required.
6. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with patients, their families and people from diverse cultures. This
includes patients with English as a second language and patients from remote indigenous communities.
2. Proven high level of interpersonal, written and oral communication skills to effectively liaise with a diverse range of
internal and external stakeholders, government and non-government agencies, to provide information and coordinate
care.
3. Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment, initiative and analytical skills to prioritise and manage a complex workload,
effectively manage clinical waitlists and meet the needs of a busy service environment.
4. Demonstrated ability to perform calmly and professionally in an environment subject to pressure and change.
5. High level of administrative experience and ability to operate with strong attention to detail.
6. Demonstrated experience in the use of Information Technologies and a range of software applications with accurate data
entry for booking and reporting purposes.
7. Demonstrated ability to adhere to strict patient identification processes and handle confidential information in a discreet
and professional manner.
Desirable
1. Qualification in Medical Terminology or other qualification relevant to the role
