The Role
We’re looking for a Project Officer (Youth & Child Safety) to lead projects, partnerships, and programs that support young people and strengthen community wellbeing across the Georges River area.
In this role, you will plan and deliver initiatives that help young people feel more connected, supported, and able to participate in their community.
You’ll also play a key role in making sure Council is a child-safe organisation. This means leading the implementation of policies and programs that protect children and young people, meet legal requirements, and promote a strong culture of safety across the organisation.
In this role, you will:
- Plan and deliver projects, programs, and partnerships that support young people and improve community wellbeing
- Work closely with community groups, services, and internal teams to deliver initiatives
- Lead engagement activities such as community consultations, working groups, Advisory Committees and forums
- Implement and monitor Council’s Child Safe Action Plan and related policies
- Track community needs and trends to help shape future programs
- Prepare reports, briefings, and presentations for senior staff and Council
- Support the delivery of Council’s social and community priorities, with a focus on young people and child safety
A Key Part of This Role - Child Safety:
A core part of this role is leading Council’s approach to child safety.
You will oversee the systems, policies, and practices that help keep children and young people safe when they engage with Council services and programs.
The expected outcome is that:
- Council meets the NSW Child Safe Standards and all legal requirements
- Staff understand their responsibilities and apply child safe practices in their work
- Risks to children and young people are identified and managed early
- Children and young people feel safe, respected, and heard in all Council activities
The successful candidate will have
- Has experience as a Project Officer or similar role, delivering community or social programs
- Has qualifications in Social Sciences or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Understands child safety requirements, including the NSW Child Safe Standards
- Can build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
- Communicates clearly and confidently with different audiences
- Can manage multiple projects and priorities at once
- Has experience working within budgets and delivering outcomes
- Works well in a team and builds positive working relationships
- Holds a current NSW Driver’s License is preferred
- Is confident using Microsoft Office and standard business systems
What We Offer
- Permanent full time – 70 hours per fortnight
- Salary from $87,352.20 to $101,210.82 p.a. plus 12% superannuation.
