Alzheimer’s Queensland (AQ) is seeking two compassionate and reliable Dementia Respite Assistants to join our team at our South Coast Multi Service Centre in Arundel.
This is a hands-on casual role where you will support older people and people living with dementia in a centre-based respite setting. You will help create meaningful days for clients by encouraging participation, building genuine connections, assisting with personal care, and supporting a calm, safe and welcoming environment.
This role is well suited to someone who is patient, resilient, and experienced in supporting people with dementia, including clients who may have responsive behaviours or more complex care needs.
- Provide centre-based respite support to older people and people living with dementia.
- Build respectful and trusting relationships with clients and their families.
- Encourage participation in meaningful activities that support wellbeing, independence and social connection.
- Assist with personal care and daily living tasks as required.
- Support clients with responsive behaviours or complex care needs in a calm and respectful manner.
- Communicate any concerns or changes in client needs to the appropriate team members.
- Work collaboratively with the respite team to maintain a safe, welcoming and engaging environment.
- Certificate III or IV in Aged Care, Individual Support, Community Services or a similar qualification.
- Experience supporting older people or people living with dementia.
- Knowledge of dementia care principles, behaviour support and person-centred care.
- Previous experience supporting clients with responsive behaviours or complex care needs is highly regarded.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable, punctual and committed to providing high-quality care.
- Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in challenging or changing situations.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Current Open Driver’s Licence.
- Flexibility to work weekdays, weekends and varied shifts.
- Willingness to obtain or maintain a satisfactory National Police Check and required vaccinations.
Candidates must be flexible and available to work a variety of shifts across weekdays and weekends, including afternoon and night shifts, for a minimum of three to four shifts per week.
Weekend-only availability will NOT be suitable for this role.
- $49.41 per hour + 12% superannuation.
