Primary objective
As part of the Transforming Aboriginal Outcomes team, provide high level support to the Director, Transforming Aboriginal
Outcomes to drive transformational reforms to improve outcomes for Aboriginal children, families, individual and communities
through structural reform and culturally competent and responsive services. The role will also be responsible for the coordination
and high-level secretariat support of the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Security Leadership Committee, project management of
key activities and tasks arising from the Committee and planning and enabling the annual Aboriginal Employee Forum.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Support the development of key projects and actions to progress outcomes for Aboriginal for children, families and individuals
in line with the Aboriginal Cultural Security Framework.
2. Coordinate, prepare and review reports, submissions, briefings and correspondence, including Ministerial and Executive advice.
3. Produce analytical research of the service system, impacts, trends, gaps and dependencies that will inform service options and
solutions relating to Aboriginal children, families, individuals and communities.
4. Utilise negotiation and oral and written communication skills, with the ability to develop productive working relationships and
partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
5. Manage workloads relating to multiple and complex projects whilst meeting tight deadlines in an environment that is subject to
rapid change.
6. Provide project management and high-level secretariat functions to the Aboriginal Cultural Security Leadership Committee and
relevant committees led by the Transforming Aboriginal Outcomes team.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience and knowledge in project management including development and implementation of Aboriginal
initiatives and policy.
2. High level negotiation and oral and written communication skills, with the ability to develop productive working relationships
and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and effectively negotiate and liaise with all levels of government,
service providers and the community.
3. Demonstrated experience in gathering and investigating information from diverse sources, exploring new ideas and different
viewpoints.
4. High level of cultural competence including a sound understanding of the current environment, including contemporary issues
regarding Aboriginal workforce.
5. Demonstrated ability to work independently and to work effectively within a team to achieve high-level results and meet
deadlines within tight time constraints and in a politically sensitive environment.
6. Highly developed strategic cultural knowledge and demonstrated wide Aboriginal networks.
7. Experience in development and organisation of large group activities and forums.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in relevant field and/or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience with demonstrated commitment to
ongoing professional development.
