Primary objective
Provide strategic leadership to develop and deliver evidence-based health promotion initiatives that increase participation in the
breast, bowel and cervical cancer screening programs across the Northern Territory.
Context statement
Cancer Screening Services delivers population-based screening programs across the Northern Territory. This role leads health
promotion initiatives to improve screening participation and access for priority populations.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Apply best practice health promotion approaches to conduct needs analysis, develop, implement and evaluate health promotion
strategies to encourage client participation in breast, cervical and bowel screening programs throughout the Northern Territory
(NT). This includes attending events to promote and raise awareness of screening (including outside of normal working hours).
2. Foster and maintain partnerships and strategic alliances with key internal and external stakeholders.
3. Represent the NT at breast, bowel and/or cervical screening forums as requested and contribute to key national initiatives.
4. Manage and facilitate the day-to-day operation of the BreastScreenNT mobile screening truck in partnership with the wider
team.
5. Contribute to the development of strategies, guidelines, business plans and policies to provide advice and recommendations on
delivery of cancer screening services.
6. Actively participate in projects, policy and program development and facilitate continuous improvement activities to increase
participation rates in the 3 programs.
7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken
in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
8. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour in both the health
promotion team and the wider cancer screening service.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Qualification in Health Promotion (such as Certificate IV) or willingness to work towards.
2. Demonstrated skills and experience in planning, implementing and evaluating evidence-based health promotion strategies and
programs.
3. Demonstrated ability to function with a high level of independence and initiative within a defined timeframe.
4. Demonstrated high-level interpersonal skills including community consultation/liaison, written and verbal communication skills.
5. Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively in a multi-disciplinary team.
6. Demonstrated experience, knowledge and understanding of population health screening policies and women’s health.
7. Demonstrated ability to work within cross-cultural environments, including Aboriginal culture, and a proven ability to
communicate sensitively and effectively with people whose first language is not English.
8. Experience in adult education, public speaking, training and working with the media.
Desirable
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent experience.
