At Best Practice Software, our vision is communities connected with care. We’re achieving this through our mission to build a culture people love, where:
- we value customers,
- we work together for success,
- we are accountable for our actions,
- we innovate for the future, and
- we celebrate diversity and inclusion.
If you share our vision and values, please consider this exciting career opportunity to join our growing team in Brisbane or Bundaberg, Queensland.
At Best Practice Software, we build the products that help Australasia’s primary healthcare community deliver better care. This is a technical Product Owner role at heart — you’ll be the bridge between government and industry technical requirements, third-party partners, and the product team, turning complex specifications into workflows our customers love.
You’ll sit within our Technical Partnerships stream, reporting to the Technical Partnerships Leader, and take ownership of a backlog shaped by real regulatory change and partner integration needs — with real influence over how we prioritise and deliver against it. If you’re as energised by an API spec as you are by a customer interview, this role is built for you.
You’re unique, and we value that.
As a Product Owner – Commercial, we’ll call on your unique talents, skills, expertise, and experience to:
- Translate complex technical requirements — API specifications, data standards and integration architecture — from government and industry partners into clear product design specs and workflows our delivery teams can build from.
- Plan and drive the delivery of third-party integrations, working closely with the Product Design team and Architecture to shape technically sound solutions.
- Analyse the market and gather feedback from government, industry and the primary healthcare space to shape our roadmap for APIs and third-party integrations.
- Keep a close eye on industry changes that may impact our current and future product roadmaps, including updates to third-party components embedded in our software.
- Collaborate closely with the product design, architecture and product delivery to build software users love — and workflows that make sense end-to-end.
- Optimise our workflows and improve the user experience across our product suite.
- Manage stakeholders with clarity — setting expectations, agreeing on objectives, and building relationships that last.
- Represent Best Practice Software at industry events, conferences and partner forums, sharing insights and taking part in co-design.
- Discover, distil and distribute the technical details that matter — turning noise into a backlog people trust.
We believe our ideal applicant will demonstrate the following attributes:
Essential
- 3+ years’ experience as a Product Owner, Technical Analyst or Business Analyst working directly with APIs, integrations or technical specifications on technology-centric projects.
- Comfortable reading API and data specifications, integration architecture and technical documentation — and confident translating these into clear user stories, acceptance criteria and customer workflows.
- Working knowledge of REST APIs and healthcare data standards such as FHIR.
- Degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems or a related technical discipline.
- High-order written and verbal communication, reasoning, judgement, and strategic and analytical thinking.
- Ability to identify opportunities, risks, problems, inefficiencies and inconsistencies — and propose solutions that drive demonstrable improvement.
- Confidence working with the backlog, documentation and diagramming tools used in modern product delivery.
- A genuine passion for making our customers’ product experience as amazing as possible.
- An “open book” approach — happy to share your knowledge and ideas to help grow our customers and our teams.
Nice to have
- Exposure to Microsoft SQL, or comfortable querying data to support investigation and decision-making.
- Previous experience in Australian healthcare or the medical software/e-health field.
- Familiarity with quality management and continual improvement principles.
What’s in it for you?
- Market-leading benefits that make us a proven local employer of choice.
- Flexible work arrangements that help you strike the right career balance.
- Exciting start to, or positive development of, your Health IT career, with brilliant internal growth opportunities.
- Belong as part of a dynamic and highly supportive team with a strong dedication to the mission.
- Enrich your experience by supporting our frontline healthcare heroes across Australasia.
