Curtin’s University Marketing team plays a critical role in attracting, engaging and supporting future students as they explore their study options and take the next step towards university.
The Experience and Design function brings together user experience, content, design, digital product thinking and front-end delivery to create digital experiences that are clear, useful, inclusive and effective. We are focused on improving the way future students find information, compare options, make decisions and connect with Curtin across digital channels.
As expectations of digital experiences continue to evolve, our work is increasingly shaped by data, research, accessibility, design systems, personalisation, automation and the responsible use of AI. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a skilled experience design team at a time of significant change and opportunity.
About the Role:
As Manager, Experience Design you will report to the Senior Manager, Experience and Design and lead a team of UX, UI and digital experience specialists responsible for improving Curtin’s future student digital experiences working closely with content, development, analytics and technology partners.
This is a high-impact leadership role with the opportunity to shape digital experiences used by millions of prospective students each year across Curtin’s future student website portfolio and primary recruitment channels. You will play a key leadership role in shaping user-centred experiences across Curtin’s future student website portfolio, supporting student recruitment, brand, campaign and engagement priorities. Working closely with teams across University Marketing, Digital and Technology Solutions, Admissions, Future Student Engagement, faculties and external partners, you will help ensure Curtin’s digital experiences are intuitive, accessible, evidence-led and aligned to the needs of diverse audiences.
The role also owns the Curtin website theme across curtin.edu.au, providing leadership on the design patterns, front-end experience standards and governance needed to deliver consistent, accessible and scalable digital experiences across the University’s web presence.
This role will suit an experienced design leader with strong digital thinking – someone who can balance strategy and delivery, lead people well, work confidently with stakeholders, and translate research and insight into practical improvements across complex digital environments.
You will also help the team explore and adopt contemporary ways of working, including the responsible use of AI to improve research synthesis, prototyping, content and experience operations, testing, personalisation and decision-making.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead the development and implementation of experience design strategies, principles and practices that improve Curtin’s future student digital experiences and support student recruitment objectives. You will help define what good looks like across key journeys, ensuring our websites and digital products are clear, accessible, engaging and aligned to audience needs.
- Lead, coach and support a team of experience design and digital experience professionals, creating the conditions for strong performance, clear prioritisation, professional growth and high-quality delivery. You will provide direction across workload planning, design practice, stakeholder engagement and day-to-day delivery, while driving a positive and collaborative team culture.
- Champion user-centred and evidence-led design, embedding user research, analytics, testing and insight into the way digital experiences are planned, designed, delivered and optimised. You will help the team understand user behaviour, identify friction, challenge assumptions and turn evidence into practical recommendations that improve outcomes.
- Champion inclusive design, accessibility and usability across Curtin’s digital experiences, ensuring our work supports a diverse range of future students, including school leavers, mature-age students, international audiences and students from equity backgrounds. You will also support the continued development of digital standards, design systems, experience design governance, website theme standards and reusable patterns that improve consistency and scalability.
- Help identify practical and responsible opportunities to use AI within digital experience work, including research synthesis, prototyping, content workflows, experimentation, personalisation and experience optimisation. You will bring curiosity and sound judgement to emerging technologies, ensuring AI is used in ways that are ethical, useful, transparent and aligned with Curtin’s standards.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders across University Marketing, faculties, recruitment, admissions, technology and external partners. You will bring people together around shared user problems, communicate recommendations clearly, and support decision-making that balances audience needs, business priorities, technical constraints and brand objectives.
- Own and continually improve the Curtin website theme, working with internal and external delivery partners to ensure digital experiences across curtin.edu.au are well designed, accessible, performant, measurable and aligned to design system and governance standards.
Who we are looking for/Selection Criteria:
- Relevant qualifications and/or equivalent professional experience in experience design, user experience design, digital product design, interaction design, service design, human-centred design or a related field.
- Significant experience in experience design, UX, digital experience or product design, including experience leading user-centred design work in a complex environment.
- Experience leading, coaching or managing designers, experience design specialists or multidisciplinary digital teams.
- Strong understanding of user research, usability testing, analytics, information architecture, interaction design, accessibility and design systems.
- Demonstrated ability to translate research, data and insight into clear recommendations, practical improvements and measurable outcomes.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence, advise and collaborate across teams with different priorities.
- Sound understanding of contemporary digital experience trends, including AI, personalisation, experimentation, automation and emerging user expectations.
- A practical understanding of responsible AI use in design, research or digital experience workflows would be highly regarded.
- Excellent planning, communication and prioritisation skills, with a record of delivering outcomes in a fast-moving environment.
- A positive, collaborative and pragmatic leadership style, with a commitment to improving experiences for users and supporting the growth of your team.
This Continuous G08 level role attracts a remuneration of $119,125 - $126,950 + 17% superannuation.
