About the Role
We’re seeking a motivated Technical Support Officer to support our Development Assessment & Compliance Team. In this role, you’ll coordinate technical and administrative functions across town planning, building certification, plumbing, drainage and regulatory services. You’ll help ensure efficient, accurate and compliant processes for both internal teams and the community.
This position suits someone who enjoys structured processes, problem‑solving and delivering excellent customer service in a regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide administrative and technical support across planning, building, plumbing, drainage and compliance functions.
- Coordinate and process Development Applications, Construction Certificates, Complying Development Certificates, Section 68 approvals and related documentation.
- Manage lodgement, referrals, advertising, tracking and workflow through Council systems.
- Review application completeness, request additional information and guide applicants through requirements.
- Respond to routine enquiries and escalate complex matters appropriately.
- Prepare planning certificates, notices, approvals and related correspondence.
- Manage GIPA applications in line with legislation and policy.
- Maintain accurate statutory registers, databases and records.
- Input, analyse and report data for internal, State and Commonwealth reporting.
- Ensure GIS and other system information is current and reliable.
- Prepare application and inspection data to support reporting, customer service and statutory returns.
- Deliver professional, timely customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Balance regulatory compliance with responsive, solution‑focused service delivery.
- Act as Development Concierge for major projects, coordinating information, approvals and stakeholder engagement.
- Assist with developing and maintaining policies, procedures and work instructions.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to a collaborative team culture.
- Comply with Council policies, WHS obligations, privacy requirements and the Code of Conduct.
Position Requirements
Essential
- Experience or relevant training in administrative support within development assessment, building certification or regulatory environments.
- Working knowledge of planning and building legislation, processes and terminology.
- Proven ability to deliver high‑level administrative support in complex, regulated settings.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage confidential information.
- Well‑develop customer service and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable
- Diploma in Business Administration or related field.
- Experience using GIS or spatial data tools.
- Experience in local government planning or regulatory services.
- Current NSW Class C Driver Licence.
