Primary objective
As a member of the educational leadership team, provide high level leadership in curriculum development and delivery and
monitoring to achieve optimal educational outcomes for students in programs for Preschool to Year 12. The Senior Teacher is the
educational leader and coordinator overseeing the implementation of NTSDE, VET and pathways to employment including work
experience.
Context statement
Batchelor Area School and Outdoor Education Centre are situated 96 kilometres south of Darwin. The school has a population of
110 and caters for students from Preschool to Year 12, comprising of 73% Indigenous students. Leadership focuses on building
teacher capacity to deliver evidence-based practices in literacy, numeracy, and wellbeing. A consistent approach is taken to embed
effective classroom management and school wide positive behaviour. The strategic focus of the school includes the improvement
and implementation of whole school practices in reading, numeracy, orderly learning environments and student wellbeing and
engagement.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Undertake an appropriate teaching load.
2. Mentor and coach staff in the analysis of data and delivery of effective educational programs to meet the needs of all students.
3. Provide leadership and support in the formulation and review of school policy, procedures, and strategic plans to achieve
educational outcomes and strategic goals.
4. Lead the development of staff and the implementation of quality teaching, learning and assessment through collaboration
with other school leaders to achieve the goals of the Annual Strategic Improvement Plan.
5. Assist with the provision and delivery of Northern Territory School of Distance Education, Vocational Education and Training,
student wellbeing, and behaviour across the school.
6. Provide day to day leadership including coaching teaching teams to individualise learning plans for Preschool to Year 12 with
moderate and severe intellectual and/or multiple disabilities.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated successful experience in the implementation of curriculum through coaching and mentoring, pedagogy,
assessment, moderation, reporting procedures and data analysis in line with whole school approaches, particularly Read,
Write, Inc, Fresh Start, Meaningful Maths, School Wide Positive Behaviour and the Science of Learning practices.
2. Demonstrated high-level data literacy skills to drive school and student achievement. Data collection implementation, analysis,
and interpretation to support student teaching and learning and improvement, including proven experience with Fresh Start,
Meaningful Maths and GradeXpert.
3. Demonstrated successful application of wellbeing strategies, effective leadership, interpersonal, communication and conflict
resolution skills with staff, parents, and students to promote a positive school community.
4. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and curriculum practice advice to others to facilitate effective educational
outcomes for students with moderate and severe intellectual and/or multiple disability and challenging behaviours.
5. Provide educational leadership and support to staff, in terms of teaching and learning, professional development and student
assessment to monitor and maximise learning outcomes for students from Preschool to Year 12.
Desirable
1. Experience with explicit teaching.
2. Experience with delivering project-based learning integrated with Information and Communication Technology.
