Burke Shire Council is seeking a motivated and organised Finance and Procurement Officer to join our Finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in finance and local government while gaining hands-on experience across procurement, contracts and revenue administration.
About the Role:
As the Finance and Procurement Officer, you will provide administrative and operational support across Council's finance and procurement functions. The role includes assisting with the procurement of goods and services, preparing RFQs and tender documentation, maintaining procurement records and contract registers, supporting revenue administration, and liaising with internal stakeholders and external suppliers. A keen attention to detail will be essential as you ensure accuracy in documentation, data management and contract tracking.
The position is based in Cairns, with the expectation of periodic travel to the Burke region.
Key responsibilities:

Assist with procurement of goods and services in line with Council policies, procedures and legislative requirements.
- Prepare and issue RFQs and assist with tender and contract documentation.
- Maintain procurement records, contract registers and key documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
- Assist with debtor invoicing and other revenue administration activities.
- Liaise with suppliers regarding quotes, orders, delivery timeframes and general enquiries.
- Provide administrative support to Project Managers and the Finance team.
- Support staff with procurement processes and purchasing requirements.
- Assist with procurement reporting and data entry into Council systems.
- Foster positive engagement with local suppliers, contractors and stakeholders.
What You Bring:
You will have sound computer skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information. You'll communicate professionally, enjoy working as part of a team, manage competing priorities under direction and have a genuine willingness to learn and develop within the role.
A strong ability to manage deadlines and work accurately will be essential.
What we offer:
- Salary: $66,522 per annum.
- Superannuation: 12.5% employer superannuation.
- Remote Allowance: $3,423 - $6,846 per annum.
