Forensicare:
Forensicare (Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health) is Victoria’s specialist provider of forensic mental health services. We deliver recovery-focused programs that support consumers living with serious mental illness or problematic behaviours who are connected to, or at risk of contact with, the justice system, across a variety of settings including community-based services, inpatient units, and secure environments throughout Victoria.
Prison services:
We provide mental health services in prisons across Victoria. We strive to provide the same standard of services and care to people in prisons that anyone else experiencing mental illness can access at an areamental health service. Forensicare deliver comprehensive forensic mental health (FMH) services at the Ravenall
Correctional Centre, as a sub-contractor to the GEO group. The FMH services comprises of a bed based service for 75 prisoners and a large outpatients program. Over 100 Forensicare clinical and corporate support staff are located at the new prison. Our work in prisons includes:
- triage
- on-site assessments
- ongoing clinical care and support
- harm prevention and crisis interventions
- outpatient clinics and episodic care
- inpatient teams
- rehabilitation and transition to community programs.
Position objective:
The Program Manager Erskine is an integral part of the Ballerrt Yeram-boo-ee Forensic Mental Health Services leadership team operating from the Ravenhall Correction Centre. The Program Manager has responsibility and accountability for providing high level management and direction for the overall
Forensicare operation of the program including planning, development of human, physical and financial resources,and overseeing the delivery of multi-disciplinary services.
The Program Manager will ensure the program structures and practices align with the Ravenhall Charter, ensuring service integration and fidelity to the vision, mission, values and principles of the Charter.The position engages with other Ravenhall Correctional Centre managers and service providers across
Justice Health, Forensicare, GEO custodial and program staff to improve and maintain the program and service’s management, clinical, educational and support activities. The position provides direction and support aligned to the outcomes of the Forensicare Strategic Plan, the National Mental Health Standards,
the Mental Health Act 2014, the Corrections Act 1986 and other relevant legislation, standards and competencies.
The Program Manager will provide leadership and operational oversight of the program, with the assistance of a Clinical Coordinator to assist with operational business. The Program Manager provides line management/supervision to staff working in the Erskine program.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and management of the Erskine program at Ravenhall Correctional Centre.
- Role model Forensicare’s organisational values and behaviours in all interactions.
- Role model the Ballerrt Yeram-boo-ee principles and philosophy of care provision, using best clinical practice frameworks such as Recovery-oriented care and Trauma Informed Care.
- Role model and promote effective and collaborative working relationships with GEO and Alliance Partner staff.
- Develop, implement and evaluate the Program’s Business Plan, ensuring strong links and contribution to the organisation’s Corporate Strategic Plan.
- Provide leadership, advice, line supervision and mentoring to direct reports.
Key selection criteria:
- Hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing or equivalent, and possess current registration with AHPRA.
- Demonstrate experience translating knowledge of current Australian College of Mental Health Nursing standards of practice, contemporary forensic mental health nursing practices and relevant legislation into practice, coupled with significant post registration experience in a similar role.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the assessment and management of patients with acute and sub acute mental health needs including contemporary best practice in risk assessment of violence and self-harm/suicide.
- Thorough understanding and demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer Recovery, including the modelling and leading of Recovery focused initiatives.
- Ability to leverage working relationships with colleagues and high level knowledge of clinical practices to build strong connections, cooperation and collaboration.
- Significant experience in leading teams through organisational and unit change, building a motivated and collaborative team.
