About the role

You will be working with InforMH - A team responsible for data development, collection, analysis and reporting for NSW public mental health and suicide prevention and response services, and the analysis and reporting of data from the NSW Suicide Monitoring System (SuMS). In this position of Biostatistician / Senior Analyst, your role will support data development, extraction, analysis and reporting for priority NSW Health suicide prevention and related mental health projects.
What you’ll be doing
- Data assembly and manipulation: to access health data in key NSW Health data sources (including NSW Enterprise Data Warehouse, SaPHaRI, NSW Suicide Monitoring database) and assemble complex datasets for analysis.
- Descriptive and statistical analysis: to plan and conduct complex analyses of health data to describe care, clinical journeys or outcomes and to describe variation between consumer groups or regions.
- Data synthesis and communication: to summarise and synthesise the results of analyses and prepare reports or publications for use by NSW Health.
- Indicator development: to contribute to the development of measures and indicators which can be used by NSW Health in the routine reporting of health system performance and outcomes.
- Strategic development: to actively participate in planning and development to ensure that data and analysis approaches remain current and aligned with changing policy priorities, resources and technical capacities.
About you
We are seeking motivated and committed individuals who can support the work of NSW Health with:
- Demonstrated experience in analysis or reporting of suicide data or the application of tools and techniques relevant to suicide data, including time series analysis, trend detection, smoothing and mapping.
- Extensive knowledge of health-related data collections and systems, the strengths and weaknesses of these databases and a good understanding of the NSW and Australian Health Systems.
- Extensive experience conducting and interpreting statistical analyses of population-based health administrative other health related data, including linked datasets, using a range of analytic tools and methodologies to describe clinical care, clinical pathways or the performance of health systems.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in the use of statistical analysis software packages, high level programming languages, relational databases and related software for manipulation, analysis and reporting of information.
- Relevant biostatistics postgraduate qualification or equivalent; and relevant biostatistical experience and training.
