What to Expect
The Staff Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Lead is a strategic role responsible for driving EHS excellence, regulatory compliance, and measurable risk reduction across Commercial and Utility Energy deployments throughout the Pacific region.
Reporting to the EHS Director – Energy, Charging and Service, this role partners with senior regional leadership, product and project engineering teams, frontline operational teams, contracting partners, and cross-functional Tesla stakeholders to embed a proactive safety culture and advance continuous improvement across Commercial Energy.
The successful candidate will lead strategic, tactical, and operational EHS initiatives across complex regulatory environments, supported by a regional team. This role demands deep technical proficiency across multiple EHS disciplines, the ability to influence at all levels of the organisation, and sound judgment in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Based in Melbourne or Sydney, Australia, the position requires frequent and extended travel across the region.
What You'll Do
- Develop partnerships and serve as a trusted EHS advisor to Tesla Energy business leaders, ensuring regulatory compliance and safe product deployment across Commercial and Utility Energy deployments in the Pacific region.
- Serve as a technical expert in the safe design, installation, construction, and operation of Tesla energy products.
- Lead the development and implementation of EHS programs and support Tesla's global EHS strategy across the Energy business.
- Lead, develop, mentor, and coach regional EHS team members using data-driven assessments and stakeholder input.
- Learn from EHS events, determine root causes, and drive preventative actions using Human and Organisational Performance (HOP) principles.
- Conduct proactive, learning-focused field observations to verify EHS compliance, document findings, and review improvement opportunities with operational and EHS stakeholders.
- Identify operational gaps and facilitate innovative EHS solutions in collaboration with cross-functional teams, while serving as a visible safety leader who coaches and trains teams to uphold Tesla's safety vision and values.
What You'll Bring
- Have a minimum of 5 years of progressive Environment, Health, and Safety experience in organisations at scale and an educational degree in an EHS-related field, engineering, or other related fields of study.

Extensive experience working directly within the electric power generation, transmission, storage, or distribution industries. Detailed knowledge of the functionality of lithium-ion battery storage is preferred.

Practical experience in construction safety, working at heights, electrical safety, and environmental risks, with knowledge of local and national regulatory agencies.

Detailed knowledge and practical, hands-on experience in developing and deploying electrical safety programs under the requirements of AS3000.

Ability to execute responsibilities in a fast-paced global organization using a 'first-principles' approach, with strong communication skills and the ability to interact positively with various stakeholders.

Strong interpersonal skills, great attention to detail, problem-solving skills, multi-task, prioritising, and working in a highly fast-paced environment, and a demonstrated ability to perform duties independently and remotely with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will also be a team player who can be proactive, creative, and innovative in approaching challenges.
