NEP Australia is currently looking for a Learning and Development Consultant to be responsible for the coordination, design and delivery of high-quality technical training for NEP’s broadcast operations.
This role ensures that engineers and technical staff have the skills, resources, and capabilities required to deliver seamless broadcast productions across NEP’s global network.
The position
Working closely with Hub and field engineering leads, technical supervisors, and NEP’s wider global training community, the Learning and Development Consultant will drive a culture of learning, innovation, and operational excellence within a complex, technology-driven environment.
We are looking for someone who is available to train our staff depending on the needs of the business, who can work flexible hours to fit in with our crew and there will be potential for interstate travel and training.
This casual role could be based in Sydney or Melbourne and working between our CBD and warehouse locations, or on site at an Outside Broadcast.
Key Responsibilities but not limited to:
1. Technical Training and Facilitation
Deliver structured technical training on how to operate broadcast systems in the field (e.g., vision mixers, routing, replay, comms, EVS, IP workflows like SMPTE 2110)
Explain end-to-end workflows (signal flow from camera ? production ? transmission)
Train both on-site (OB trucks, venues) and remote production setups
Conduct onboarding and upskilling sessions for technical staff, ensuring consistent operational standards.
Facilitate workshops that build practical problem-solving and fault-finding skills in live production contexts.
Deliver instructor led technical training in classroom, studio, field, and virtual environment
Run real-world simulations (match-day scenarios, failure scenarios, live switching drills)
Supervise trainees during setup, rehearsal, and live events
Emphasise “learning by doing” rather than just theory
2. Technical Competency and Assessment
In conjunction with Operations, develop and manage a competency framework for all technical staff
Assess individual and team technical proficiency and identify skill gaps.
Maintain detailed training and certification records in alignment with NEP’s global standards.
Maintain strong working knowledge of NEP platform architecture, systems, and workflows.
Develop and administer assessments, certifications, and competency evaluations.
Ensure checklists and operational procedures across shows and locations are understood and followed
Train employees on company standards (e.g., NEP workflows, safety protocols, comms etiquette)
Deliver Induction and ongoing training for new employees on equipment, trucks and workflows
3. Collaboration and Continuous Improvement
Work with Hub Operations, Engineering, and Projects teams to ensure training aligns with current systems and workflows.
Partner with Global Technical Training to share best practices and contribute to global standardization.
Provide input on equipment onboarding, workflow documentation, and change management.
Actively support new system implementations, providing just-in-time training and documentation.
Gather feedback from trainees and stakeholders to improve training effectiveness.
Support global consistency while allowing for regional and operational variations.
4. Safety & Compliance
Embed safety, compliance, and operational risk management principles into all technical training.
Teach fault-finding under live conditions (e.g., signal loss, sync issues, comms failure)
Run “what-if” drills so crew can respond quickly during live broadcasts
Ensure training supports compliance with relevant regulations, client requirements, and NEP policies.
Promote a culture of safe, reliable, and high-quality operations.
Required skills and attributes:
Skills and Experience
Proven experience in live broadcast or production environments (e.g., OB trucks, studios, live events)
Strong understanding of broadcast systems and signal flow
Proven track record in technical training delivery, both instructor led and virtual technical training and competency assessment.
Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
Experience using Learning Management Systems (LMS) and digital authoring tools.
Ability to adapt to rapidly changing production technology and environments.
Willingness to work flexible hours and travel as needed.
Relevant technical certifications or trainer certifications.
