About the Role
Morwell Medical Centre and Drouin Family Medical Centre are seeking a highly skilled and motivated IT Manager to oversee all technology operations across both practices. This role is ideal for an experienced IT professional with strong technical capability, hands‑on systems administration experience, and the ability to manage hardware, software, networks, cyber security, and clinical systems in a fast‑paced healthcare environment.
You will work closely with the Practice Manager, clinical teams, and external vendors to ensure secure, reliable, and efficient IT operations across both sites. The role requires strong problem‑solving skills, excellent communication, and the ability to support a busy clinical environment where system uptime, data integrity, and cyber security are critical.
Core Responsibilities
IT Strategy, Planning & Governance
- Develop and maintain the IT operational plan for both medical centres.
- Establish IT policies, procedures, and standards covering security, access control, backups, and acceptable use.
- Oversee technology lifecycle planning, procurement, and asset management.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare privacy, cyber security, and data protection requirements.
Hardware, Systems & Infrastructure Management
- Manage and maintain all IT hardware including desktops, laptops, servers, printers, scanners, VoIP phones, tablets, and clinical devices.
- Ensure all consulting rooms, reception areas, and treatment rooms have fully functional IT equipment.
- Oversee installation, configuration, and upgrades of hardware and operating systems.
- Monitor system performance and proactively resolve issues to minimise downtime.
Software Administration & Clinical Systems Support
- Administer and support medical practice software including Best Practice / Medical Director / Zedmed, HotDoc / HealthEngine / Automed, Medicare Online, PRODA, HPOS, MyGovID, and secure messaging platforms.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and system configurations.
- Troubleshoot software issues, integration failures, and update problems.
- Train staff on clinical software workflows and system updates.
Network Administration & Connectivity
- Manage LAN/WAN networks, routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and Wi‑Fi infrastructure across both sites.
- Ensure secure and reliable connectivity between Drouin and Morwell locations.
- Monitor network performance, bandwidth usage, and uptime.
- Implement network security protocols including MFA, firewall rules, and endpoint protection.
Cyber Security & Data Protection
- Implement and maintain cyber security controls aligned with healthcare standards.
- Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and risk reviews.
- Manage encryption, secure messaging, and secure data transfer protocols.
- Oversee backup systems, disaster recovery planning, and business continuity processes.
- Respond to cyber incidents and coordinate remediation activities.
Website & Database Administration
- Maintain and update the medical centre websites, ensuring accuracy, security, and performance.
- Manage hosting, SSL certificates, plugins, and content updates.
- Ensure online booking systems integrate correctly with practice management software.
- Oversee internal databases, backups, and data integrity.
Vendor, Supplier & Contract Management
- Liaise with IT service providers, software vendors, telecommunications companies, and equipment suppliers.
- Manage service agreements, licensing renewals, and support contracts.
- Coordinate escalated technical issues with external vendors.
- Evaluate new technologies and recommend improvements.
Staff Support, Training & Helpdesk Management
- Provide day‑to‑day IT support to doctors, nurses, receptionists, and administrative staff.
- Troubleshoot issues related to email, printing, scanning, clinical software, network access, and device connectivity.
- Develop user guides and conduct training sessions for new and existing staff.
- Maintain an internal issue‑tracking or helpdesk system.
Systems Administration & Operational Efficiency
- Manage user accounts, passwords, and access levels across all systems.
- Oversee cloud services, backups, and storage management.
- Implement workflow improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
- Support digital transformation initiatives across both medical centres.
Key Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Networking, or a related discipline.
- 3–5+ years’ experience in IT management, systems administration, or technical support.
- Strong understanding of medical practice software and healthcare IT environments.
- Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, Office 365, and cloud platforms.
- Strong networking knowledge (routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs).
- Demonstrated experience in cyber security and data protection.
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and stakeholder‑management skills.
