Applicants may be considered for either role based on their skills, experience and business needs. These roles support Council programs through forecasting, budgeting, reconciliations, reporting and practical business partnering advice.
About this opportunity:
Mackay Regional Council is creating a recruitment pool for Accountant opportunities within Financial Services, including:
- FS0077 Accountant Management Accounting
- FS0061 Accountant Revenue and Treasury
These roles provide financial advice, planning and reporting support across Council programs. As part of a professional and collaborative Financial Services team, you will help managers make informed decisions by reviewing financial data, identifying errors or variances, reconciling accounts and supporting accurate forecasting.
Across these roles, your duties may include:
- Common focus: providing financial advice, checking data, reconciling accounts, supporting reporting and building effective working relationships with internal stakeholders.
- Management Accounting focus: supporting budget development, forecasting, project costing, variance analysis and financial performance reporting.
- Revenue and Treasury focus: supporting cashflow, bank reconciliations, trust reconciliations, investments, reserves, loans and revenue-related reporting.

Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
To be successful, you will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Business, Finance, Commerce or Accounting.
- QLD C Class Drivers Licence
- Sound knowledge of accounting systems, financial processes and Microsoft Office programs.
- Experience or working knowledge in budgeting, forecasting, project costing, reconciliations and financial reporting.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to check information carefully, identify errors and apply sound judgement.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly and build effective working relationships.
- Good organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise work, meet deadlines and workeffectively both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of local government accounting procedures, Australian Accounting Standards, audit requirements or relevant legislation.
- Experience working in a complex organisation or local government environment.
- Eligibility for membership with CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, or study towards membership.

Stream A, Level 3–5: base annual salary from $86,710.48 to $104,821.68 (the level offered will be determined based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience).
