We are looking for an Operations Centre (OC) Smelting Analyst - Aluminium Reduction to join our Technical Smelting Support team.
This role provides an exciting opportunity to apply your smelting knowledge and operational experience in a unique environment, supporting aluminium smelters across Rio Tinto's Pacific Operations network. Working from our Brisbane Operations Centre, you will monitor reduction line performance, identify emerging process issues and work closely with site teams to support safe, stable and efficient operations.
Using a range of systems and analytical tools, including Vigie process monitoring software, you will help detect process deviations, support timely interventions and contribute to operational improvement across our smelters.
This position is an excellent opportunity to be an integral part of the Technical Smelting Support team that has a strong safety, operational and problem-solving focus. You will work a 12.5hr day/night 4, 5, 5 shift roster in the Brisbane CBD and report to the Operations Centre Superintendent Smelting.
What you’ll be doing
As a Smelting Analyst, you will have the following responsibilities:
Monitoring (24 hours a day, 7 days a week) of reduction line operations and processes across our Pacific Operations smelters
Identification of operational and technical process deviations and support of timely diagnosis and escalation activities
Analysing process data, alarms and operational trends to support decision making and maintain operational stability
Collaborating remotely with technical teams, supervisors and process controllers to support safe and effective operational outcomes
Participating in technical discussions, toolbox meetings and operational reviews with both Operations Centre and site teams
Embracing a standardised approach to work that promotes effective communication and operational excellence
Building strong working relationships with operational and technical teams across multiple smelters
Conducting site visits to improve process knowledge and foster collaboration with our site teams
Following and applying Rio Tinto Health, Safety and Environment principles
You will be a motivated and proactive team member who enjoys problem solving, continuous learning and working collaboratively to improve operational performance.
Operational experience within aluminium smelting environments, with reduction line experience preferred
A passion to work as one team and drive improvement across our smelters through listening and actively engaging with operational teams
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to interpret data and identify emerging trends
Ability to analyse information, build options and present recommendations based on data in a clear and timely manner
Strong verbal communication skills and confidence engaging with a variety of operational and technical stakeholders
Ability to adhere to procedures and standardised approaches
A high level of computer literacy and the ability to learn and utilise new systems and technologies
Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment calmly and professionally
Passion for continuous improvement and data-driven decision making
Flexibility to cover shift rosters and leave coverage when required

The OC Smelting team operates within the Operations Centre in Brisbane CBD. Working alongside the broader Operations Centre team, you will play an important role in supporting the performance, stability and future success of our Pacific Aluminium operations.
