We are looking for experienced Disability Support Worker rockstar’s to join our growing services, reporting to our Operations Team and working with our participants/clients.
Assisting clients in their homes and in the community around the Melbourne Suburbs. This role will suit those who are self-motivated, organized and flexible.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Experience supporting children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
- Understanding of neurodiversity-affirming and person-centred support practices.
- Experience supporting non-verbal or minimally verbal participants.
- Knowledge of alternative and augmentative communication (AAC), visual supports, PECS, communication devices, or similar tools.
- Ability to build trust and maintain consistent routines.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
- Understanding of sensory needs and strategies to support emotional regulation.
- Well-developed communication skills and interpersonal skills
- An out-going, positive and interactive attitude.
- Initiative to advocate for your clients to ensure the best level of care is provided.
- The ability to be flexible and adaptable in challenging situations.
- Know how to organise and action daily tasks and schedules.
- The ability to work under limited supervision
The Disability Support Worker's responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Support the participant to engage in meaningful activities aligned with their NDIS goals.
- Assist with communication using AAC devices, visual schedules, gestures, and other communication methods.
- Implement positive behaviour support strategies in accordance with the participant's Behaviour Support Plan (where applicable).
- Support the participant with social, recreational, and community-based activities.
- Monitor and document progress, observations, and incidents accurately.
- Work collaboratively with parents, guardians, therapists, and the Operations Team.
- Support the participant with emotional regulation and sensory needs.
- Transport the participant to appointments, activities, and community access programs as required.
Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience supporting children with autism and complex support needs.
- Experience implementing Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies (highly desirable).
- Knowledge of autism-specific support practices.
- Experience using AAC or other alternative communication methods (preferred).
- Current Working With Children Check (essential).
- NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate.
- NDIS Worker Screening Check.
- Current First Aid and CPR.
- Valid Driver's Licence and reliable vehicle.
- Current Police Check
- COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate
