In this role, you'll:
Join our Safety Risk and Assurance (SRA) Service Delivery team to support the Major Works Function in delivering projects by providing subject matter expert advice and guidance for SRA Professionals and Advisors as well as Managers, Engineers and Business leaders on matters relating to the safe management of occupational hazards during planned and unplanned engineering and maintenance tasks.
Assess and provide guidance on the safe management of chemicals, physical and biological hazards and hazardous materials that may be present in the workplace, ensuring any concerns relating to hazardous materials (such as asbestos, silica, airborne contaminants) can be managed and escalated accordingly.
Undertake activities to interpret Work Health and Safety (WHS) Legislation and the Sydney Trains Safety Management System (SMS) and support Engineering and Maintenance teams by consulting with them on updates and requirements to WHS Regulations, specifically for the changes to Workplace Exposure Limits (WEL) on airborne contaminants.
Collaborate with key stakeholders to undertake site assurance activities, promote occupational hygiene awareness, and provide mentoring activities to support the business.
This a Temporary full time position for up to 18 months, located onsite at the Clyde Hub, with a requirement to travel to job sites as required.

About you
Hold an Occupational Hygiene related Science Degree with demonstrated professional experience in occupational hygiene within, or as a consultant to, a major organisation and eligible for Provisional or Full Membership of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH).
Knowledge in construction and maintenance operational sites, tunnelling environments beneficial with exposure and experience with legislation and Silica in the workplace and exposure.
Demonstrated experience in the identification, risk assessment and control of hazardous chemicals and hazardous materials, noise, vibration, lighting, thermal stress, protective equipment, ventilation and ergonomics.
Ability to operate occupational hygiene testing equipment and interpret results and demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the WHS legislative framework and demonstrated experience in applying legislative requirements to workplaces.
Demonstrated ability to prepare detailed reports and provide expert level analysis and advice on occupational hygiene risks
Strong communication, consultation and negotiation skills and a high degree of initiative and flexibility.
