ABOUT THE JOB
We have a vacancy for a permanent full-time General Hand to join our Facilities team at Sancta Sophia College.
This is a hands-on role which reports to the Maintenance Manager. You’ll be helping keep our College safe, tidy, functional and welcoming. You’ll assist with day-to-day maintenance and presentation of our buildings, grounds and facilities.
You’ll be working in a unique residential college environment with more than 300 university students living on site. The role involves regular lifting and shifting, using ladders and platforms, being on your feet during the shift, and working across a mix of indoor and outdoor spaces.
You’ll play an important part in preserving Sancta’s heritage for past, current and future students, and for staff and our guests.
The role is permanent full-time at 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Preferred hours of work are 8.00 am to 4.00 pm, with occasional evening or weekend work as required.
As this is a permanent position, Working Holiday visa holders need not apply.
ABOUT YOU
You don’t need to be a qualified tradesperson, but you’ll be practical, reliable and willing to learn. You’ll take pride in doing the job right, enjoy helping people, and be comfortable working in an environment where priorities can change during the day.
You will be suited to this role if you have:
- Practical problem-solving skills
- A can-do attitude and a strong work ethic
- A commitment to a safe workplace
- Good communication skills
- Ability to safely perform manual tasks and can be on your feet for much of your shift
- An eye for detail
- Willingness to learn new skills and develop broad “home handy person” maintenance skills
Experience in maintenance, facilities, groundskeeping, hospitality or a similar hands-on role would be advantageous but is not essential.
