Primary objective
Deliver a high quality, culturally appropriate and effective case management and bereavement services for family, friends and communities of
deceased patients of Top End Regional Health Services (TERHS) who are admitted in TER mortuaries, and work in accordance with related
legislation and TER policies and procedures. The role is required to provide high-level correspondence and effective communication of related
issues to the TER Executive Leadership Team (ELT).
Context statement
NT Health provides an integrated health services through a variety of service settings including acute and subacute care, primary health care, aged
care and mental health. This position will require the applicant to operate within an extended hour’s service model working with families and
communities to navigate movement of deceased patients out of TER mortuary’s and into an appropriate resting place.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide Bereavement support, including brief therapeutic grief and loss counselling, comprehensive needs, risk and clinical assessment and
case management to bereaved next of kin and families of long stay mortuary deceased.
2. Implement individualised support plans to meet needs of individuals, families and communities and to finalise deceased’s arrangements.
3. Coordinate the submission of applications to, and formal engagement with, the Northern Territory Public Trustee’s Office, Coroner’s Office
of NT and DOH Legal.
4. Submit applications and referrals to, and formally engaging with Land Councils, Office of the Public Trustee and Mediation services including
Northern Territory Civil and Administrative Tribunal with regards to disputes.
5. Provide information and advice about issues and innovative service responses to complex case needs to a range of key stakeholders.
6. Provide high-level advice and participate in development and maintenance of TER policies and procedure pertaining to management of the
deceased and bereavement support.
7. Provide regular high-level briefs and reporting to TER Executives on relevant activities as well as the escalation of issues where appropriate.
8. Maintain and use various statistical and information databases.
9. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to
ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
10. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary team leadership practices and role modelling behaviour in accordance with NT Health
values.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Relevant qualifications in an allied health profession that meets membership eligibility requirements of their respective professional
association, and registration for practice with this Professions Board of Australia if applicable.
2. Extensive post graduate experience in providing contemporary, high-level clinical case management and bereavement services to
families/carers.
3. Demonstrate high-level awareness and understanding of Aboriginal culture and proven experience in working effectively with families/carers
of diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
4. Advanced communication and interpersonal skills, including well developed negotiation and conflict management skills, with significant
experience working in a team environment to achieve positive outcomes.
5. Extensive experience in clinical supervision of staff and a commitment to professional development.
6. Proven ability to initiate, implement and complete continuous quality improvement and service development activities.
7. Proven ability to successfully organise and manage a high volume complex workload.
8. Demonstrated high level leadership skills with capacity to provide leadership in a team environment.
Desirable
1. Post-graduate qualifications in loss and grief/bereavement and leadership / management, speciality practice area or other relevant field.
2. Knowledge of the current range of services available to bereaved families in the Northern Territory.
