Fishing crew & seafood processors
Establised fishing company in Victoria looking for fulltime fishing crew positions: skipper, master fisher, ship’s engineer, ship’s officer, deck/fishing hands, and factory workers for processing seafood.
This company maintains a drug free workplace; employees can be subject to random drug testing which is a condition of employment.
Applicants for qualified positions must have at least 5 years relevant and verifiable experience, or 2 years for fishing/deck hands and process workers. You need to be strong as the positions involve heavy lifting, working on the deck sometimes in heavy seas. Tasks include managing fishing operations, unloading the fish, icing up the vessel, working in the fish factory and maintaining the fishing net and vessel, in consultation with the company owners. You will be away from home for several days, sometimes with a short turn around in port before returning to sea. Where you are required to hold a licence or registration, you must hold the appropriate tickets or you will not be considered.
For successful candidates, a salary or percentage of catch rate as per industry standards will be negotiated according to qualifications, skills, experience and performance in the same or similar occupation. An annual salary for full time employees for the relevant occupations will range $71,481.00 to $73,000.00 for deck/fishing hands, $71,481 to $73,000 for ship’s officers; $71,481 to 80,000 for ship’s engineers and master fishers, and for experienced ships masters a salary will be negotiated. As a general guide, a base rate $73,000.00 plus bonuses can bring the yearly earning in excess of $100,000.00 but subject to negotiation with the right person.
