Inverell Shire Council is looking for someone like you for the role of Graduate Environmental Health Officer. The Graduate Environmental Health Officer is responsible for undertaking environmental and public health functions on behalf of Council including the day to day oversight of a number of Council facilities such as cemeteries and landfills.
About the role
As a key member of the environmental services team, the Graduate Environmental Health Officer provides or supports the delivery of a variety of services to the Inverell Community, including but not limited to:
- Undertaking collection of water samples and arranging necessary testing, and monitoring water qualities in public pools and spas.
- Performing compliance inspection and investigations at Council's waste management faciltiies.
- Routine inspections at Council controlled cemeteries and monitoring performance measures as set out in maintenance contracts.
- Complete routine returns to the EPA as required by Council's Environmental Pollution licences.
- Conduct inspections of food premises and ensure compliance with the Food Act and the NSW Food Authority.
- Conduct public health inspections across a range of areas including skin penetration premises, warm water systems, air conditioning cooling towers, mortuaries, hairdressers and beauticians.
- Assisting with public awareness and education campaigns in areas including waste management, recycling and food safety.
- Conduct and participate in investigations into complants relating to environmental and public nuisance matters in conjunction with Council's compliance team.
- Coordinate Council's participating in a variety of events and activities, including but not limited to Clean Up Australia Day, White Goods Collection and Free Landfill Access.
- Carry out auditing of residual waste and recycling to inform Council's overall waste management strategy.
Remuneration shall range from $1,349.60 to $1,497.14 gross per week.

The following selection criteria shall be considered as part of your application:
Essential:
Three (3) to five (5) years experience in a similar role.
An understanding of relevant environmental, public health and local government legislation.
Class C (1A) Drivers Licence.
Experience using a range of computer software packages including word processing, spread sheets, data bases etc.
High degree of interpersonal skills including experience in managing difficult situations and negotiating outcomes.
Understanding of and demonstrated capacity to deliver good customer service.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of workplace health and safety issues as they relate to the position.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable:
Completion of Bachelor Degree in Environmental Health or equivalent.
A working knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
Demonstrated capacity to prepare reports on technical matters relating to environmental health field.

Employment will be in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Local Government (State) Award 2023. The classification for the position is Band 2, Level 2, Grades 10 to 11. Salary will be in accordance with qualifications and experience, and will be in a range from $1,349.60 to $1,497.14 gross per week.
