Primary objective
Provide senior leadership and expert oversight of ministerial liaison functions by ensuring the accurate, timely and
coordinated management of ministerial correspondence, briefs, Cabinet-related material and whole-of-government
requests, while acting as the primary interface between the Department of Corrections, Minister’s Office, Cabinet Office
and Secretariat Services and NT Government agencies.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide a high-quality, timely and effective liaison service between the Department, the Minister’s Office, Cabinet
Office and Secretariat Services and NT Government agencies.
2. Coordinate and oversee the preparation, review and submission of Ministerial briefings, Cabinet Submissions and
Executive Council Submissions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and compliance with governance requirements.
3. Provide leadership and strategic oversight of Secretariat services across the Department, ensuring consistent effective
and best practice service delivery.
4. Review, coordinate and quality assure Ministerial and Legislative Assembly briefings, Cabinet documents and responses
to whole-of-government requests.
5. Provide expert advice and drive continuous improvement in Ministerial, Cabinet and Secretariat practices, procedures
and systems across the Department.
6. Develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with the Minister’s Office and senior departmental staff to
negotiate priorities, timeframes and requirements for ministerial requests and correspondence.
7. Provide support to the Manager, including the preparation of reports.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to provide high-level support and advice to departmental staff on Ministerial and Cabinet
processes, including the application of established guidelines, procedures and protocols.
2. Highly developed oral and written communication skills, with proven ability to prepare, review, proof-read and edit
complex briefs and correspondence to a high standard.
3. Well-developed organisational and time-management skills with a demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities,
meet tight deadlines and deliver outcomes in a Secretariat or similar environment.
4. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and collaborative approach, with the ability to work effectively within and across
teams, and to consult and negotiate with others to achieve outcomes.
5. Proven capability in the proficient use of information technology systems.
6. Personal attributes that support effective performance in a sensitive environment, including discretion, ability to
maintain confidentiality, work under pressure, flexibility, and a high level of political awareness and sensitivity.
Desirable
1. Previous experience in a Secretariat or Ministerial Liaison role and familiarity of the structure and activities of the
Department of Corrections.
2. Ability to work flexible hours if required.
