Primary objective
Develop and provide policy and legislative advice and support to key projects as they relate to portfolios within the
Department of Logistics and Infrastructure.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Undertake and lead research and analyse pertaining to identified portfolio priorities and provide strategic policy and
legislative advice on the development of legislation for the Northern Territory.
2. Produce and assist with high level complex papers, reports, briefings, and correspondence, including public information
papers, Ministerial Briefings, Cabinet Submissions, drafting instructions, speech notes and research papers.
3. Assist with developing appropriate communication strategies and supporting information to facilitate extensive industry
and stakeholder engagement and consultation processes.
4. Plan for, coordinate, and manage working groups to ensure the development of effective legislative frameworks for
legislative priorities.
5. Plan for, coordinate, and manage extensive external stakeholder consultation on the development of legislative
frameworks, which may include local government, industry and the community.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in resolving and progressing legal and regulatory issues or facilitating the drafting and
enactment of legislation.
2. Proven experience in research and critical analysis of legislation and providing high level strategic policy advice and
legislative solutions.
3. Demonstrated high-level written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including the proven ability to
communicate complex legislative issues with clarity and influence.
4. Able to work independently, exercise sound judgement and identify and progress priorities with minimal supervision.
5. Proven experience in working collaboratively in dynamic teams and with industry professionals and other stakeholders
to negotiate outcomes, resolve conflict and achieve outcomes.
6. Demonstrated well-developed conceptual presentation skills and experience in presenting complex policy and legal issues
to a diverse range of stakeholders, utilising a broad suite of communication tools.
7. Proven practical organisational skills to coordinate the management of working groups, executive reporting, and
stakeholder engagements, whilst meeting tight deadlines and adapting to changing priorities in a dynamic work
environment.
