Flagstick Bistro is an established hospitality business operating quality bistro venues across regional NSW. Our Yass venue is located at Yass Golf Club, where we provide classic Australian bistro meals, seasonal specials, and function catering for the local community.
We focus on fresh food, consistent service, and creating a welcoming dining experience for members, guests, families, and visitors. Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Cook to join our kitchen team at Flagstick Bistro Yass.
About the Role
We are looking for a skilled and reliable Cook to prepare and present high-quality bistro meals while maintaining strong standards in food safety, hygiene, presentation, and kitchen efficiency.
The successful applicant will work closely with the Head Chef and kitchen team to support daily lunch and dinner services, functions, specials, and busy trading periods.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, cook, season, and present a variety of bistro-style dishes in accordance with established recipes, venue standards, and customer expectations.
- Prepare meals including grills, schnitzels, burgers, seafood, pasta, salads, specials, and function items as required.
- Examine ingredients and food products to ensure quality, freshness, and compliance with food safety standards.
- Assist with daily food preparation, mise en place, and production requirements for lunch, dinner, and function services.
- Monitor food preparation and cooking processes to ensure consistency in flavour, quality, portion control, and presentation.
- Portion, plate, and garnish dishes to bistro standards while minimising waste and supporting food cost control.
- Ensure all food preparation, cooking, storage, and cleaning activities comply with food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Assist with stock rotation, inventory control, and proper storage of food and kitchen supplies.
- Work collaboratively with chefs and kitchen staff to coordinate food preparation and ensure efficient service during busy trading periods.
- Prepare meals in accordance with dietary requirements, food allergies, and special customer requests.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen workstations, equipment, cool rooms, and food preparation areas.
- Assist in training and supporting junior kitchen staff in food preparation, kitchen procedures, and food safety practices.
Essential Requirements
- Relevant Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification.
- At least one year of relevant experience as a Cook in a commercial kitchen environment.
- Experience working in a bistro, restaurant, club, pub, or similar hospitality venue.
- Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, food safety, and hygiene standards.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
- Reliable, organised, and able to maintain consistency during busy services.
- Availability to work across lunch, dinner, weekends, and functions as required.
