Get That Geek is looking for a practical, reliable computer repair technician to help in our repair shop in Smithfield.
This role would suit someone who is confident troubleshooting computers, enjoys solving problems, and can work through jobs without needing constant handholding.
You’ll be helping with repairs, diagnostics, customer updates, parts ordering, job notes, and keeping the workshop moving.
What you’ll be doing
- Diagnosing laptop and desktop issues
- Performing common repairs, upgrades, and maintenance
- Setting up new computers
- Installing software, updates, antivirus, and drivers
- Assisting with data transfers and backups
- Testing devices properly before return
- Writing clear job notes
- Looking up and ordering parts
- Updating customers when needed
- Helping at the front counter during busy periods
- Keeping the bench and work area tidy and organised
What we’re looking for
You don’t need to know everything, but you do need to be practical, honest, and able to think through problems.
The right person will be:
- confident with computers
- comfortable opening laptops and desktops
- able to follow a repair process
- good at documenting what they’ve done
- calm and polite with customers
- reliable and punctual
- willing to ask questions when needed
- careful with customer data and equipment
- able to work independently once shown the process
- able to create their own documentation
Bonus skills
These are helpful but not essential:
- phone or tablet repair experience
- printer, email, Wi-Fi or network troubleshooting
- experience using ticketing systems
- retail or customer service experience
About the role
This is a hands-on role in a small business, so you’ll need to be flexible. Some days will be technical bench work, some days will involve helping customers, checking in devices, or following up on jobs.
We are looking for someone who can help move repairs forward and reduce bottlenecks in the shop.
Hours and pay will depend on experience.
