We are seeking a warm, approachable and reliable Disability Support Worker to provide individualised support to a client with particular preferences regarding communication style, personality and interpersonal compatibility.
The successful candidate will be patient, emotionally perceptive and able to build trust gradually while respecting the client’s routines, choices and personal boundaries. The client values clear, fluent English communication, a calm and familiar communication style, consistency, and a friendly but respectful approach.
Compatibility is especially important for this placement. Shortlisted applicants will therefore participate in a meet-and-greet with the client before regular shifts are offered.

- Build a positive and trusting relationship through patience, consistency and genuine engagement.
- Communicate clearly and confidently in English, adapting communication to the client’s level of comfort.
- Support the client with daily living activities, household tasks, community access and appointments, as required.
- Encourage independence, choice and participation without placing unnecessary pressure on the client.
- Recognise and respond appropriately when the client needs reassurance, personal space or a change in approach.
- Maintain professional boundaries while providing warm and engaging companionship.
- Follow the client’s support plan, risk-management strategies and organisational procedures.
- Record accurate progress notes and communicate relevant changes or concerns to the appropriate team members.
- Work collaboratively with the client, their family, the support team and other professionals.
- Maintain the client’s privacy, dignity, safety and confidentiality at all times.
- Previous experience providing disability, aged-care, community or individual support is preferred.
- Excellent spoken and written English, with the ability to communicate naturally and clearly with the client.
- A warm, approachable and emotionally intelligent interpersonal style.
- Strong rapport-building skills and the patience to allow trust to develop over time.
- Ability to receive feedback and adapt to detailed or specific client preferences without becoming defensive.
- Reliable, punctual and able to provide consistent support.
- Calm and respectful when the client is uncertain, particular about their support, or initially reluctant to engage.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement and seek guidance when necessary.
- Understanding of person-centred practice, dignity of risk, choice and control, and professional boundaries.
- Willingness to attend a client meet-and-greet as part of the matching process.
A Certificate III in Individual Support, Certificate IV in Disability, or another relevant community-services qualification is beneficial but not essential. Relevant experience and demonstrated compatibility with the client will also be considered.
