The Paediatric Neurosurgery Surgical Trainee - Unaccredited Position is available at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick, for the 2027 Clinical Year, from 01 February 2027 to 06 February 2028. The position provides an opportunity for a Trainee to further develop paediatric skills in the spheres of clinical care, neurosurgical procedures, education and supervision under the supervision of consultant paediatric neurosurgeons.
The Trainee's responsibilities will include providing skilled surgical support to the patients of paediatric Staff Specialists and Visiting Medical Officers in the Department of Neurosurgery, trauma and emergency support to the patients in the Emergency Department, neurosurgical consultation and service to other disciplines in the hospital as well as teaching of junior medical officers, nurses and undergraduates. It is a requirement of this position to be available to participate in both overtime and on call rosters.
The Department of Neurosurgery provides a range of services for the city of Sydney and the state of New South Wales. This includes management of neurosurgical conditions of newborns, infants and adolescents.

Selection Criteria:

MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category

Minimum three years postgraduate experience
-
12 months previous paediatric or paediatric neurosurgical experience

Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals
-
Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development and demonstrated ability to teach, and willingness to participate in the teaching of Medical Students, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff

Understanding of research methodology or research experience and a willingness to undertake research proposal
-
Demonstrated contribution to the development of hospital services e.g. participation in Junior Medical Staff matters, representation on behalf of the Hospital or participation in Hospital Committees preferable

Willingness to comply with hospital policy for infection control
