Male Disability Support Worker – Mentor & Community Support
Gladstone, QLD | Casual | Approx. 3-12+ Hours Per Week (with opportunity to grow)
Do you enjoy the gym, gaming, getting outdoors, and making a genuine difference in someone's life?
With A Little Care is looking for a compassionate, reliable, and energetic male Support Worker to become an important part of a young male participant's support team in Gladstone.
This isn't your typical support worker role. We're looking for someone who can become a positive role model and mentor—someone who can build a genuine rapport while encouraging confidence, independence, and a healthy lifestyle.
About the Participant
Our participant is a 17-year-old young man with Autism (Level 2), sensorineural hearing loss, and a rare genetic condition that affects muscle tone, strength, height, and weight. He is an incredibly intelligent young man with a great sense of humour who enjoys gaming, Pokémon GO, technology, and spending time with people he feels comfortable around.
Due to his hearing loss, he benefits from someone who speaks clearly, articulates their words well, and communicates patiently. He may occasionally need a little extra time to process conversations before responding, so we're looking for someone who is understanding, relaxed, and happy to communicate at his pace.
We're seeking someone who enjoys building genuine connections and can encourage healthy habits through enjoyable, everyday activities rather than high-intensity exercise.
What You'll Be Doing
Your role may include:
- Attending the gym together
- Participating in weekly hydrotherapy sessions (including being in the pool during the 30-minute session)
- Going for a walk afterwards and grabbing lunch together
- Playing Pokémon GO while exploring the community
- Beach walks, community outings, or grabbing a milkshake
- Encouraging incidental exercise in fun and achievable ways
- Supporting confidence, independence, and community participation
- Building a genuine mentoring relationship based on trust and shared interests
About You
We're looking for someone who:
- Is a male support worker who can naturally connect with a teenage young man
- Has excellent spoken English and communicates clearly
- Is patient, positive, and easy to talk to
- Understands that people process information differently and is comfortable allowing extra time during conversations
- Enjoys the gym, walking, or maintaining an active lifestyle without pushing beyond someone's abilities
- Has interests such as gaming, technology, Pokémon GO, or similar hobbies (highly regarded)
- Wants to be more than just a support worker—someone who can become a positive influence and genuine mate
Essential Requirements
- Current Driver Licence and reliable vehicle
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (Yellow Card) or willingness to obtain
- Current Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
- Current First Aid & CPR Certificate
- National Police Check
- Comfortable participating in hydrotherapy sessions in the pool
What We Offer
- A rewarding role where you'll make a genuine difference in a young person's life
- Supportive and approachable management
- Consistent weekly shifts with opportunities for additional hours
- The chance to help someone build confidence, independence, and lifelong healthy habits through meaningful, enjoyable experiences
If you're the kind of person who'd rather spend your day walking the beach, hitting the gym, playing Pokémon GO, or grabbing lunch while making a positive impact on someone's life, we'd love to hear from you.
Please apply with your resume and tell us a little about yourself, your interests, and why you'd be a great fit for this role.
