Primary objective
Uses expert nursing skills in the assessment, diagnosis and management of a person’s health needs within relevant clinical specialty area
Provides senior leadership and reference point for best practice in matters of clinical importance across a specialist client population.
Context statement
The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing and leading advanced and extended clinical care within Diabetes and Endocrinology at
RDPH. Nurses classified at this level are nurse leaders and have a significant degree of autonomy and decision making within their scope
of clinical practice. The Diabetes and Endocrine NP should have expert nursing skills in the assessment, diagnosis and management of a
person’s health needs and provide senior leadership and reference point for best practice in matters of clinical importance.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provides direct clinical care in a defined practice area for client group with diverse and/or complex care requirements
2. Provides sound professional advice critical in dealing with significant issues related to assessment, planning, review, evaluation and
coordination of client care in a defined practice area
3. Demonstrate NTH values - safe; responsive; kind – in all decision-making and interactions with consumers and colleagues.
4. Follows defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in
order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Current registration with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia with endorsement as a nurse practitioner.
2. Successful completion of an NMBA-approved Master’s program of study leading to endorsement as a nurse practitioner, or a program
determined substantially equivalent by NMBA.
3. A postgraduate qualification at Australian Qualifications Framework Level 8 in a relevant clinical field.
4. Demonstrated advanced and extended specialty clinical knowledge, skills, and experience supporting well-developed clinical decision-
making and problem solving to achieve best practice outcomes for healthcare consumers.
5. Demonstrated proficiency in the understanding, application, analysis and interpretation of a professional body of knowledge to provide
sound advice and inform practice change to optimise healthcare outcomes.
6. Experience leading, supporting, and participating in quality assurance activities, clinical audits, clinical trials, and research to enhance
effectiveness of client care.
7. Demonstrated use of effective communication skills to maximise productive working relationships, and to persuade, influence and
convince other senior staff, clients and communities including on sensitive matters requiring tact and diplomacy.
8. Demonstrates and applies highly-developed knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural issues, influences and sensitivities
that influence health care provision for individuals and groups

to approved NTH scope of clinical practice.
The preferred or recommended applicant will be required to hold a current working with children clearance notice and undergo a criminal
