About the role
At The Smith Family, we are using data, analytics and artificial intelligence to create better outcomes for children and young people experiencing disadvantage.
As we continue to grow our Data & AI capability, we are seeking an experienced and innovative Data Scientist to help transform organisational data into strategic insights, predictive intelligence and AI-enabled solutions that improve decision-making and organisational impact.
This is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of data, analytics and emerging AI technologies while contributing to meaningful social impact. You will:
Develop advanced analytical, statistical and machine learning models to solve business challenges and improve organisational outcomes
Transform complex datasets into actionable insights that inform strategic and operational decisions
Build and maintain trusted data assets, semantic models, curated datasets and other data artefacts that enable analytics, artificial intelligence and intelligent automation solutions
Partner with business stakeholders to identify opportunities where data and AI can create measurable value
Develop dashboards, visualisations and analytical products that support evidence-based decision-making
Contribute to the development of AI-enabled capabilities and future digital worker solutions
Support data governance, data quality and responsible AI practices to ensure trusted and ethical use of organisational data
Promote data literacy and analytical thinking across the organisation

About you
You are naturally curious, analytical and motivated by using data to solve complex problems and create meaningful impact. You will have:
Qualifications in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline
Experience applying advanced analytics, statistical modelling and machine learning techniques to real-world business problems
Strong capability in Python, SQL and modern analytics platforms
Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and problem-solving skills
A passion for innovation and using data to drive positive organisational outcomes
Experience with AI, machine learning and predictive modelling technologies
Experience working with cloud-based data and analytics platforms
Experience within a not-for-profit, education, community or purpose-led organisation
Understanding of data governance, data management and responsible AI practices
