About the role
Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) is seeking dedicated Legal Assistants to join our Ringwood and Broadmeadows offices. We have a range of ongoing opportunities available and welcome applicants with strong administrative experience and an interest in supporting legal services.
In these roles, you will provide essential administrative support, including clerking at the relevant local courts, managing reception duties, data entry, answering phone enquiries, and conducting client triage and referrals. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of the office while delivering high-quality service to clients and supporting our legal teams.
Our current opportunities include:
- Ringwood Office:
- 1 x full-time ongoing position
- 1 x ongoing part-time position (0.8 FTE)
- 1 x ongoing part-time position (0.6 FTE)
One of the Ringwood vacancies will particularly suit candidates with some family law experience.
- Broadmeadows Office:
- 1 x ongoing part-time positions (0.8 FTE)
- 1x maximum position up to 31 Dec 2026 (0.4 FTE) with possibility of extending
These roles are based at our Ringwood and Broadmeadows offices on Wurundjeri Country.
About you
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds, including vulnerable individuals.
- The ability to handle sensitive and complex situations with discretion.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, MS Teams) and the ability to learn and use legal case management systems effectively.
- Team-oriented mindset, with the ability to collaborate and work well with others in a busy legal environment.
