Project Engineer | Major Food Manufacturing
Location: Bendigo Region, VIC
An exciting opportunity exists for a Project Engineer to join a leading Australian food manufacturing business operating a large-scale production facility in the Bendigo region.
This role offers the chance to deliver a diverse range of capital and operational projects within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, supporting ongoing site growth, efficiency improvements, and strategic investment initiatives.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle delivery of engineering and capital projects, from concept development and feasibility through detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover to operations.
You will play a key role in translating business requirements into practical engineering solutions while ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and aligned with operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver capital and operational projects from concept through to commissioning and handover.
- Develop project scopes, specifications, budgets, schedules, and cost estimates.
- Coordinate internal stakeholders, contractors, suppliers, and consultants to ensure successful project delivery.
- Monitor project progress, manage risks, and implement corrective actions as required.
- Lead commissioning activities and support the successful transition of projects into operations.
- Ensure compliance with WHS, environmental, food safety, and relevant engineering standards.
- Conduct risk assessments and maintain strong contractor safety management practices.
- Manage project budgets, forecasts, and expenditure to achieve cost and performance targets.
- Provide regular project reporting and stakeholder updates.
- Oversee contractor and supplier performance, including on-site installation and construction activities.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and promote a strong safety culture across all project activities.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally possess:
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Process Engineering, or a related discipline.
- At least 3 years' experience in Project Engineering within manufacturing, FMCG, food processing, or a similar industrial environment.
- Proven experience delivering capital projects (CAPEX).
- Strong knowledge of Australian engineering standards and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent project management, planning, and organisational skills.
- Strong technical problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Commercial awareness with experience managing project budgets and costs.
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced production environment.
- High attention to detail across technical documentation, drawings, and project records.
