Primary objective
To lead and manage Lands Planning to ensure the branch maximises its resources to facilitate an effective and efficient
planning framework, which will achieve orderly land use planning and development in the Northern Territory.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead and manage the Lands Planning branch in all aspects including business and strategic planning, program
reporting and human resource management.
2. Provide high- level policy advice to the Minister and Government, Government agencies, Development Consent
Authority and Planning Commission.
3. Oversight and verify the preparation of strategic land use plans for new suburbs, towns and regions to facilitate
development, economic growth and the delivery of land release and infrastructure programs.
4. Administer the NT Planning Act 1999, Regulations and NT Planning Scheme on behalf of the NT Government and
provide advice to the community and industry.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in effectively leading and managing a team including business planning, human resource
management and development, budgeting and management of output performance.
2. Senior-level experience in strategic land-use planning, with a proven ability to provide strategic advice to government
and statutory bodies, supported by a strong understanding of social, economic and environmental contexts
3. Communication skills to prepare complex correspondence and reports and to negotiate and interact effectively
with people of diverse cultures including industry, professional and community associations.
4. Strong customer service ethos to deliver a quality customer focussed service.
5. Ability to develop and maintain strong professional working relationships across Government, the Planning
Commission, Development Consent Authority, the community and industry representatives.
6. Provide leadership, policy advice and guidance in identifying and managing WHS issues as they apply to the
workplace and workplace activities of employees and stakeholders.
Desirable
1. Extensive knowledge of the Northern Territory planning processes and procedures with comparative knowledge
of systems and environments throughout Australia.
2. Business or management qualifications from a recognised training provider.
3. A degree in land use planning related to urban and regional planning from an Australian tertiary institution or
equivalent.
