About this Position:
Reporting to the Lead Integration Communications and City Product the Communications and Engagement Officer - Waste is responsible for the delivery of waste education projects and services and also contributes to the development, delivery and evaluation of education, marketing and communications activities identified within the Waste portfolio.
This position is part of a multi-skilled team and is required to flexible and agile. From time to time, this role may be required to support more than one department as the need arises and provide support across the organisation as directed.
This is a full-time, maximum-term contract position through to 7 May 2027, based primarily between the Goonellabah Corporate Centre and Lismore Waste Depot.

What we trust you to deliver:
- Produce education, communication and engagement content, plans and activities for the Waste portfolio, in accordance with approved project plans.
- Providing technical advice to facilitate the development of education programs to reduce waste to landfill and reduce contamination in the organics bin and recycling service, across all sectors of the community.
- Promoting the activities, projects and changes in Council’s waste management to the community.
- Engage and consult by means of well-developed oral and written communication skills, with the capability to influence, listen to others, put forward ideas and encourage the views of others.
- Achieve excellence through service delivery benchmarks and is committed to the implementation of continued improvement processes
- Be accountable for agreed Waste Minimisation budgets, timeframes and planning, delivery and reporting standards.
- Analyse problems and evaluate alternatives with a focus on collaborative problem solving.
What you will need to be successful:
- Degree qualification in Education, Public Relations, Communications or Marketing or a related discipline; or equivalent relevant industry experience.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills including liaising with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in implementing and delivering community education and communications programs that incorporate education for sustainability.
- A current Class C Drivers Licence.
- Demonstrated computer literacy, including Microsoft suite.
Desirable:
- Experience working within Local Government.
- Demonstrated experience using Authority and/or Content Manager.
Full Position Description:
Conditions of Employment: Full-time, maximum-term contract position through to 7 May 2027, requiring 35 hours of work per week.
Salary: Grade 14, with a salary range of $84,632 to $97,327 per annum, plus superannuation. This remuneration will be adjusted in line with the award increase, effective from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2026.
