GoodBoy Animal Training is seeking an experienced and motivated dog trainer to join our growing team as an independent contractor servicing Melbourne and surrounding areas.
We are looking for trainers who are already working in the industry and can confidently conduct private lessons with clients. This is not a trainee or apprenticeship position. The majority of appointments involve puppy training, basic obedience, manners, leash walking, recall, and common behavioural concerns. More advanced behaviour cases may be assigned based on experience and qualifications.
We provide client referrals, scheduling support, and administrative assistance so you can focus on training dogs and helping clients achieve real-world results.
Responsibilities
- Conduct in-home dog training sessions
- Teach puppy foundations, obedience, manners, and life skills
- Assist owners with common behavioural concerns
- Develop practical training plans tailored to individual dogs and families
- Maintain professional communication with clients
- Complete brief lesson notes following appointments
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of professional dog training experience required
- Experience conducting private lessons with clients required
- Strong understanding of canine learning theory and behaviour modification
- Commitment to science-based, positive reinforcement training methods
- Reliable vehicle and willingness to travel Highly regarded backgrounds include Psychology, Psychological Science, Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), Behaviour Therapy, Animal Behaviour, Veterinary Nursing, and related fields.
Compensation
This is an independent contractor position. Trainers receive 60% of completed lesson fees.
Current trainer earnings include:
- $60 per Puppy Foundations lesson
- $90 per Behaviour Modification lesson - Up to $117 per Reactivity & Aggression lesson (depending on experience and case assignment)
Clients are provided by GoodBoy Animal Training.
