Lead the Future of Medical Education at Curtin University
Curtin University is seeking an accomplished and visionary academic leader to join Curtin Medical School as
Associate Dean. This is a significant opportunity to influence the future of medical education, research, and health outcomes across Western Australia and beyond.
Working closely with the Dean and Head of School, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across the Medical School, driving excellence in education, research, governance, clinical engagement, and staff development. The role also plays a key part in advancing rural and remote health training, strengthening industry and health sector partnerships, and enhancing the School’s national and international reputation.
Key Responsibilities
As Associate Dean, you will:
- Support the Dean to provide leadership to achieve the strategic vision, growth and academic excellence of Curtin Medical School.
- Lead and support academic and professional staff, fostering a high-performing, collaborative and inclusive values-based culture.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of Curtin Medical School alongside the School Business Manager, ensuring delivery of the operational plan.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement across medical education, research and clinical engagement.
- Support the Dean to strengthen partnerships with hospitals, health services, government, industry and community key partners.
- Advance rural, remote and Aboriginal health initiatives and support equitable health outcomes.
- Enhance the School’s research profile through strategic collaboration and research leadership.
- Promote equity, diversity and inclusion through respectful and inclusive leadership practices.
- Support the Dean to build strong internal and external relationships and represent the School across academic, clinical and professional networks.
- Alongside the Dean, contribute to the University’s strategic priorities through effective planning, governance and decision-making.
About You
SELECTION CRITERIA
Our ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Qualification - A doctoral qualification in Medicine (PhD, MD or DPhil) and current AHPRA registration as a medical practitioner.
- Leadership - ability to work with others to develop a shared vision for the School’s future, inspire commitment and bring about change; demonstrable commitment to the University’s values of respect, integrity, courage, excellence and impact. A distinguished record of leadership within medicine at state, national and/or international level.
- Strategic focus - future focused and clear sighted; knowledgeable with respect to internal and external operating environments for the School and University.
- Clinical Experience - Extensive clinical and academic experience, including an understanding of rural and remote healthcare delivery and Aboriginal health issues.
- Commitment to equity and diversity – ability to clearly articulate key challenges in respect of the management of equity and diversity within the School, and a commitment to addressing these challenges.
- Communication and interpersonal skills – excellent written and verbal communication skills; an effective negotiator and conflict manager; well-developed internal and external networks.
- People management – ability to build a strong positive culture within the School; capable of attracting, developing and enabling talented staff, and fostering strong performance by both individuals and multidisciplinary teams, within complex academic and clinical environments.
- Credibility – a strong track record in research, innovation, educational leadership and/or scholarly achievement.
- Commitment to excellence and innovation – capacity to deliver continuous improvement in both teaching and research.
- Industry connections – ability to strengthen connections with industry partners, and to drive greater industry embeddedness with respect to educational programs and research.

Curtin Medical School delivers Western Australia’s only undergraduate medical program, enrolling up to 132 students annually with a strong emphasis on equity, rural health, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation. Our future-focused curriculum is delivered through state-of-the-art clinical teaching and simulation facilities at Bentley, supported by an extensive clinical education network that includes:

This Part-time (0.6FTE) Professorial position attracts a remuneration package of $173,635 - $191,099 (ALD) / $223,135 (ALE) (pro-rata) + 5% Deputy Head of School loading + Clinical Loading + 17% Super.
