Primary objective
Strengthen and mature the Northern Territory Rural Generalist Program by providing strategic workforce advice, stakeholder
engagement and trainee/registrar-focused support across the training continuum. The role promotes and facilitates access to rural
generalist training, fellowship and career opportunities through advocacy, mentoring, education and collaboration with key health
workforce partners.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Develop and maintain strong networks and collaborative relationships with the Rural Generalist Coordination Unit, health
services, and other key stakeholders to maximise opportunities for rural generalists to access and progress through rural
generalist training and career pathways
2. Provide strategic advice and contribute to the development and maturation of the rural generalist pathway, policy, strategy and
other strategic medical workforce initiatives
3. Provide advocacy, mentoring and career navigation advice to rural generalist trainees and registrars, facilitating access to
professional networks, training opportunities and fellowship pathways to support long-term career development
4. Plan, lead and deliver regular education, networking forums and professional development activities for prevocational and rural
generalist registrars and fellows across rural training locations to foster peer networking and connection
5. Promote the NT Rural Generalist Program, Rural Generalist Coordination Unit and the National Rural Generalist Pathway,
applying a comprehensive understanding of rural generalist training programs and fellowship requirements
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Eligible for registration as a specialist in General Practice with the Medical Board of Australia
2. Rural Generalist Fellowship of Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine and/or Royal Australian College of General
Practitioners
3. Experience as a rural generalist in in the NT and demonstrated contribution to rural and remote medical workforce related
initiatives
4. Comprehensive understanding of fellowship training requirements for of rural generalists with GP Colleges / RVTS
5. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with sound judgement and decision-making skills
6. Expertise in designing educational content or curriculum with a proven ability to plan and deliver education and training sessions
and networking forums that build capability and support professional development
7. Demonstrated capability to consult, influence, engage and negotiate effectively in a complex, cross-cultural and politically
sensitive environment across a broad range of stakeholders
Desirable
1. Demonstrated leadership experience within the Northern Territory and rural and remote medical professional context
